Gabe's Gabriel Project Mumbai!
Background:
This Summer I have the great privledge of participating in the Gabriel Project Mumbai, which will bring me to India for eight weeks. While in India, I will be among a group of volunteers whose responsibility is to provide nutritional meals and literacy to children in the Kalwa slums. I am a rising senior at the College of Charleston, where I am majoring in Philosophy, and minoring in Jewish and Hispanic Studies.
Additionally, I will be participating in this program through the generous funding of the Klaper Jewish Studies Fellowship. This grant seeks to fund students participating in transformative summer projects that advance Jewish life and values broadly conceived.
Namaste!
Tomorrow I am set to embark on my journey to India! I am very excited for what lies ahead, and for all that I can learn by volunteering and experiencing a foreign culture.
I am looking forward to meeting my nine cohorts in person. We had an opportunity to virtually meet during our skype orientation. Our group includes participants from Canada, England, California, and New York.
I am still in the process of packing, but I can rest (slightly) easy knowing that I have secured my Indian Visa! This was a hectic ordeal in itself which included waiting at the Indian Visa office for approximately 16 hours over four visits to pick it up. I intend to update this blog once weekly.
Until next time,
Gabe
