Hi everyone,
So we finally arrived in Bangkok at 11pm saturday night local time. Seeing as this is our first entry please forgive it for being slightly crap haha. Our flight to Sydney was pretty crap - they separated us because we are on a separate booking but we were able to demand seats together for the syd-bangkok leg. International travel is SOOOO much better than domestic....i (fi) havent done it in FOREVER and benny here hasnt really so it was such a delightful surpise to have a choice of movies. I personally didnt have enough time on the flight to watch them all....have to continue them on our way to London. So after many hours next to a vegan complaining that there was no food she could eat as they botched her order and the cutest little thai girl sitting in front who turned around and waved every 5 mins or so (poking me when i was too busy watching movies to realise) we hit the amazing city that is Bangkok.
We negotiated with a few people over who would drive us to the hostel for the cheapest amount...to tired to even care we just gave in and took the most persistent. He turned out to be quite nice but still feel a bit ripped off and that am disgracing the bargaining power of tourists everywhere. Hostel is interesting.......mattress on the floor, shower which sits over the toilet (whhhyyyy) and that was the upgraded room. Bit like a prison cell but hey.....there is a big arse fan which does the job (keeping us awake with its noise.)
What is there really to say about Bangkok??? It is possibly the busiest, dirtiest, pushiest, awesomest city in the world. SOOO hot and humid and people stopping you (and not leaving you) every few seconds for a ride in their tuk tuk. Our first attempt to get from A to B ended somewhere down the river miles from where we wanted to be and the next resulted in being taking to some shops with the guy telling us we needed to go and have a look around so he could fill up with petrol. Ben showed his manhood haha and told him no and FINALLY (30 mins later) he took us to a tourist booth. YAY! Since then we have enjoyed the shops at the MBK and Siam Square and caught the Sky train to Jim Thompsons house. The house was pretty cool but even though it was an english tour...didnt understand much haha. She tried hard though so hey...was still pretty. Must read up more on Jim Thompson and his silk industry and disappearance when we get back because it sounds kinda interesting.
Thats pretty much it from us for the day.....only plans left are to see some Thai Boxing tonight which sounds awesome. Apparently blood can spurt on people if too close....so we are REALLY hoping to avoid that.
Thailand is hot, stressful (tuk tuk drivers) but really interesting - def recommend it.
Hope everyone is having a great time back home. EMAIL US!!!
Love Ben and Fi xoxo
