No sleeping in on this trip, up early each morning so far to see something different. Today after breakfast we drove to Lake Nakuru National Park which is famous for its pink flamingos. After entering the park we came across our first family of baboons which can entertain you for hours if you let them. They are so human like and we particularly love watching the young ones fooling around. We were able to drive to the shoreline of the lake and get out for a walk to watch the pelicans, flamingos & caribou stork which were around. The flamingos are always in action, rarely standing still it seemed. If they weren't taking off or landing, they were washing themselves or shaking their wings.
On our circuit around the park we also saw our first white rhinos and lots of buffalo. Lots of the different antelopes were out on show as were the zebras. We watched two male Impalas fighting each other for a while, part of the contest to be in charge of the females. Unfortunately no giraffes as the area where they hang out we couldn't get to because the road was being washed away by the water. Kenya has been in drought for about 4 years and this year they have had lots of rain which is a good thing for them, but the roads in the parks get washed away easily. We went up to a lookout over the lake and saw this cute lizard with a blue tail and orange head. He posed nicely for a photo!!
After our lap of the lake which took a few hours we headed back to Sunbird Lodge for lunch and hopefully a walk down to the shoreline. Again, not to be because the afternoon rains returned. Instead we arranged for massages in our room and had a relaxing afternoon trying to keep warm because it turned quite chilly. We headed up to the main lodge before dinner where it is nice to relax because they have an open fire and it's a good place to warm up. Chatted with some other guests and staff before enjoying another lovely dinner.
