Today was spent visiting more schools as a group. We started out the day at the Xi'an Foreign Language School and were treated to the morning exercise routine. It was amazing to watch 1700 kids go through a morning workout and dance to some music. I was amazed at their unison and also that they were all doing what they should be. At the end of the workout, the students treated us like rock stars---storming the stand where we were, wanting to shake our hands and get our autographs---pretty funny, but lots of fun.
We then had a great discussion with the principal there about the Chinese practice of evaluation of principals and teachers as well as their hiring practices. It was incredibly informative and I was amazed at how progressive he was for China. He was talking about multiple intelligences, backward design, constructivism...it was pretty incredible.
Then we had a buffet lunch and then headed to a vocational school for the arts. We were treated to incredibly performances in dance, kung fu, Qin opera singing, and traditional instrument playing. It was very impressive to see such young kids so focused on their future.
We finished the night with dinner (another round table full of delicious food) and a traditional music and dance performance. Another great day.
