Wee Waa to Broken Hill
Broken Hill, New South Wales
We made the first serious trek today out to Broken Hill!
It really was spectacular to see the changing landscape. The regular bush scrub of north west NSW slowly became more barren and the soil a deeper red as we got closer to Broken Hill. We saw wild goats, goannas, kangaroos and emus along the way. The temperature got to a top of 44 degrees just after midday. Hoping that's as high as it gets.
The trip took around 9 + hours as we travelled from Wee Waa to Pilliga, Coonamble, Warren, Nyngan, Cobar, Wilcannia & then finally arrived in Broken Hill at 4.30pm Central Aust. time.
We took a short drive past Pro Harts gallery, which was sadly shut, but then were delighted with the sights of Silverton, including the local Silverton Hotel - made famous by many movies.
The view of the horizon from just outside Silverton was incredible. It reminded me a lot of Fred Willliams landscape works.
Tonight we had dinner at the incredible Broken Earth restaurant which sits high above the township, on a massive slag pile. It's surrounded by old remants and rustic formations of the various mines from many years before.
Tomorrow we leave early to head to Coober Pedy!
