I will keep this short because I am now in Japan and have lost my motivation to write much about China.
However, I will say this about Yangshuo: if you only get the chance to go to one place in China, go to Yangshuo.
It was so amazingly picturesque and atmospheric that even when I was sick and often emptying the contents of my stomach, even when I had a small bicycle accident and hurt myself and even when my cold returned and my nose was acting like a leaky tap and my ears became pressurised again - even after and during all that it was still amazing.
Highlights of Yangshuo include exploring the wonderful cafes and restaurants, doing a scenic bicycle ride through the mountains, going on a bamboo raft down the river and simple enjoying the scenery.
Finally, don't miss out on the Light Show directed by Zhang Yimou (for any plebs unaware of who he is, he directed Hero, House of Flying Daggers, Curse of the Golden Flower and the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony). Like everything Zhang Yimou does it was beautiful and breathtaking. But worry not, friends and family members - I bought the DVD!!
And a special shout out to Cafe China on West Street for letting me borrow the jar if Vegemite and make my own toast when the doctor told me to avoid most foods - can't tell you how nice that was. Would definitely suggest going to Cafe China if you go to Yangshuo.
Finally we said our farewells to Yangshuo and caught the bus to the train station for our final Chibese overnight sleeper train.
