The Paths Less Travelled
Up early again this morning and drove to the end of the Vesturland peninsula for a walk on the cliffs.
Before I traveled I read a narrative book about Iceland that discussed, among other topics, the impact of tourism on Iceland. At one point the author was livid about the fetish tourists have for stacking rocks. It gave me a new perspective. I guess in older times people stacked rocks to navigate in inclement weather. Maybe modern folks want to recreate that sense of adventure, and by stacking rocks maybe they feel part of a more rugged history. Or, maybe they just like stacking rocks higher than anyone else.
