We have just returned from 5 days in the Amazon Rainforest which was pretty spectacular. We did of course have very heavy rain but it didn't stop us seeing things and walking. We felt really relaxed when we returned from the Galapagos Islands it had been such an experience. When we got back to Guayaguil it was to learn that Peter and Jackies truck was not ready . We made the difficult decision to head off on our own as we couldn't be sure when it would be fixed. We have had the most memorable time over the last week. We have seen a vast array of birds, from the frigate bird with it's magnificent red throat that it puffs out like a balloon to attract the females, to the albatross which were sitting on their nests and then waddling over to the cliff to fly. Hurrah, we have arrived in Ecuador in time to go to the Galapagos on Tuesday. The last few days have been hard going as we have travelled 1300 km. This has meant travelling for long days, not fast as the roads are not designed for speed but for long hours at a time. Thank god for audio books which help to pass the time. We managed to leave Lima on Saturday morning but due to the traffic which was awful it took us 3 hours to get away from the centre and then the suburbs. We continued north up the highway, through the desert scenery with the Pacific ocean not far away.
