Homer was a lovely town and situated on the end of the peninsula overlooking amazing mountain ranges and lots of stunning glaciers. There seemed to be one around every corner!!
We spent 2 nights parked up at Simon and Peters house which had stunning views. They were so hospitable and even fed us red salmon which was mouthwatering.
Cork Graham was staying with them too. He is the author we met . He is a very interesting person who seems to have tried his hand at a vast array of jobs from special forces in the army to working on a fishing boat. He was also very kind to us . We went to a local hotel where we spent 3 hours in the outside hot tub which was right by the water and we saw sea otters swimming by on their backs. It was rather surreal. There was also as sauna and a swimming pool.Great!
Since then we have travelled back through Anchorage and on to the arctic circle.this was rather desolate landscape but we still got back in 1 day as it was very very cold as we went further north. Amazingly there was some other traffic on the roads, particularly large trucks and lorries which travel quite fast. It was the Ice truckers road of course!!
We are back in Fairbanks today and we have had to buy a new battery for the truck as it wouldn't start in the mornings. Mind you it was -9 the other day. We also have a crack in the windscreen which we will have to get sorted tomorrow. We have checked into a hotel tonight as there wasn't anywhere else except the carpark outside Walmart and it has been snowing and is quite cold!!!! We have had a lovely warm bath instead!!!!luxury
Will go to North Pole tomorrow it is only 19 miles from here and is on the way down the Alaska highway.hope it is a exciting as it sounds!!!!!!
