From Bangkok To LA
Hi guys, well we've got a lot to say for 3 days, trust me, it was absolutely awesome!!
we started our 4x4 safari at 5am in the morning, it was a struggle to get up but we managed it! We met our group who all seem really cool, 7 irish people and 2 girls from Oxford, and we're the babies of the group!!
We sorted all the camping stuff out and packed our truck/jeep up, there was a hell of stuff to put in!! We were all ready and we headed off to the ferry crossing, there were 2 other groups in trucks as well as us. We arrived at the crossing in time, we were all praying that they would miss it as they got lost, but they got there a minute before we left damn!!
We arrived on the island and the fun began! The roads were full of bumps and we were flying all over the place. On a couple of occasions we were very close to tipping over as the truck was top heavy, a lot of leaning either side was done to stop us from toppling over!!
The island is amazing, the first stop was Lake McKenzie, it was amazing! The sand was white and the water was bright blue and clear it was lovely!
We then went to another lake called Lake Wabby, which was gorgeous, it was surrounded by sand dunes! We did a walk down to it throught the rain forest, and its pretty crazy when your walking through a forest and on one side is trees and the other side is sand, awesome!!
The driving was so fun, all I can say is you wouldn't have wanted a bad hangover!!
We found a perfect spot for camping with the sea about 20 metres away!! I went down to the beach to seee the sea, and 2 dingoes were just wondering past, they just stood watching us for ages!! We put up the tents, did the cooking which was good-although some birds were circling us looking for food, and then the fun could begin!!
It started to rain so we all jumped in the truck! We played drinking games which was hilarious and all got absolutely hammered! Luckily none of us decided to go swimming in the sea, as its a breeding ground for tiger sharks, there are box jellyfish which can kill you and the tide was bloody strong, think that was enough reasons to put us off the skinny dipping!
Not surprisingly we slept pretty well that night!
Got up at 6 am, and for once actually felt alright, even Frank was fine!! We headed up to a place called Indian Head! The ocean went on for miles, and once again the views were amazing! Unfortunately we didnt see any sharks, whales or dolphins, but never mind!
On the way to our next destination, we were driving along the beach and we saw a turtle on the shore! He was so cute, honestly! We all took loads of photos and just watched him for ages! The next stop was Lake Allom. We arrived and walked down to the lake, and there were about 20 little turtles all swimming around, it was awesome! We sat for ages just watching them, they kept fighting with each other, they were so cute!! We were so lucky with the weather, blue skies all day, it was gorgeous!
the next stop was another lake that I can't remember the name of, but guess what, it was amazing again!! The water was lovely and warm and the sand was white!!
We did a scenic drive to where we were camping, it was just rainforest really so didnt really see much!
On the way to where we were camping, we saw the pinnacles (sand stone rocks with white and orange stripes in between-pretty cool). We drove down a little further down the beach till we came across the Moheno, which is a shipwreck! It looks like its about 1000years old, honestly, its all rusty!
We set up camp again, and tonights dinner was BBQ, finally the first one in Oz and it was good!!Once all the stuff was cleared away again the fun could begin! Same thing really, lots of drinking games, and we played the vegetable game, absolutey hilarious (even funnier than in turkey!!) The other groups were there but they weren't as fun as our group!!
Today, we decided we would have a lie in till 7am! We went somewhere for breakfast, took about an hour 2 come but still good! We can only drive on the beach at certain times because of high and low tides! As breakfast took ages to come we were driving on the beach when we shouldnt have really but didnt have a choice, pretty scary to be honest how soft the sand gets!!
Anyway, we made our way down a bumpy road (surprised) to get to the barge, we got there with loads of time to spare, but better to be early than late!!
All in all, absolutely awesome 3days, great group of people and an amazing Island, we saw loads of it, but there is still so much more to see!
In the evening the stars and moon were amazing, honestly!! The sky was lit up by the stars, absolutely awesome! The moon was bright orange and just above the sea, pretty impressive!
The irish lot have booked the Whitsundays at the same time as us, so there will be lots more fun to be had!!
Bring on the Whitsundays!!!!
We will have the photos soon hopefully, so you can all see what we mean when we say how fabulous it was
