Cesca's big adventure
Long time since my last posting. From Etosha I moved onto Swakupmund in Namibia where much fun was had quad biking and horse riding through the sand dunes. Waking at 4am one morning we drove to Dune 45 in the Namib Nakluft National Park and scrambled to the top for a sunrise view across the dunes.
Fish River Canyon was the next stop with amazing views of the sunset and moonrise at opposite ends of the canyon. From here I crossed the border into South Africa just before Easter, staying in Fiddlers Creek and Citrusdal (place of the hot springs), before arriving in Cape Town on a very windy Easter Sunday morning (last night of camping :)
Did much eating in Cape Town (due to an abundance of yummy restaurants), including a rather tasty chilli chocolate ostrich steak! Also visited Robben Isalnd (the place of Nelson Mandela's incarceration) and Table Mountain. I then made my way up the coast (garden route) towards Johannesburg, stoping at Oudtshoorn, Plettenberg Bay and Swaziland along the way. Oudtshoorn is home to many ostrich farms - so here I did the routine thing of riding an ostrich. I also went caving at the Cango Caves and stroked Cheeth's and Tigers at the neigbouring wildlife ranch (white bengal tiger cubs from a captive breeding programme).
Swaziland was a beautiful country. I visited a local village and dressed in traditional Swazi clothes and watched the local dancing. Milliwane Wildlife Park was home to an unfenced backpackers hostel, around which the animals roamed freely (a bit too freely sometimes - I spotted an ostrich drinking from the swimming pool on more than one occasion!!).
From Johannesburg I made my way to Australia to see the folk. Spent a few days wandering around Sydney, went up to the Blue Mountains with family (thanks Gerry, David and Becks), and for a few days to the coast at Port Stephens with more family. Also squeezed in a trip to Wollongong to see Mark D and his family.
And now I am in Thailand. Bangkok looks and smells familiar from my visit nine years ago and is busy as ever. Food is great and I managed to catch up with Gemma while she was here. Spent yesterday with her shopping on the Khaosan Road and then had yummy steak dinner in an Irish bar.
Tomorrow night I will get the overnight train to Chaing Mai and then make my way through Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.......
Haven't managed to find a computer in Bangkok yet which will let me upload pictures onto the site.....but i'll keep trying x
