Hello all! Greetings from Lima!
We have arrived safe and sound with no problems so far (touch wood) We still can´t believe we are actually here, this time last week we were building a snowman with Dad and now we´re sweating our faces off in this heat!
Our flights have all gone well too, the first one just being two hours to Madrid. Then we had to transfer to catch our next plane to Lima. One of the air hostesses announced the gates for connecting flights but no one on the plane understood a word she said, lukily out of sheer luck we managed to catch a bus to the right place and catch a breath of fresh Spanish air before our next longhaul flight. The plane for this 12 and a half hour flight was only slightly bigger and no where near the standard of the Virgin plane we got to LA! We were fortunate though as we managed to be just behind one of the few TVs that were actually on there! I thought take off was great but Turl became convinced (becuase he is a professional pilot) that the plane was doomed due to the rocking of the plane and engine cut outs- what a complete wimp. We did manage to see Engalnd covered in snow from the air though which was beautiful! The food on the other hand could have been nicer but i ate it anyway, Turl however was too afraid of going to the Loo on the flight and never touched a thing. I also managed to get a few hours sleep too unlike the moron who was sat next to me, meaning when we got to the hostel he looked like a dead body! It took us forever to get our bags, and after Turl picked up several of the wrong bags (should have slept on the flight) we actually picked up our own!
You could feel the heat even from inside the airport so it was even more intense when we got outside. We managed to find Ronaldo our amazing Taxi driver with ease and he sprinted us to the taxi. He was great and told all about Lima and things to do here! However thinking back to the taxi journey its amazing that we are sat here right now, lets just say they dont have quite the same road rules as back in PC England. No one stops for pedestrains or Red lights, and no one indicates apparently whichever car is the first to beep has right of way! It only took us about half an hour to the hostel but probably would have taken three hours back home with the speeding laws.
We arrived at our hostel at about 8pm local time but it was about 1am in our minds! we met the lovely Pedro the manager, who after letting us drop our bags off in our room immediately took us to the communal room to introduce us to everyone! Then we were handed a glass of his favourite ´Pisco Souer´ (god knows what is actually in it, but whatever it is its strong!!) its safe to say that after being awake for 23 hours sent us right to sleep!´
The hostel is great we have free internet access a tv and kitchen and everyone is really friendly!
This morning we woke up around 8am had a shower then headed for the beach which is about 5min walk away, except that this walk is 80m down a cliff. That was all very well it was trying to walk back up the cliff in the ridiculous heat that nearly killed us! There were amazing views non the less! On the beach a Spanish surfer trusted us to look after his bag while we were sat there which was really nice!
After that we found a local supermarket which was great! I loved it! It was full of really fresh food! There was a tiny freezer section (about the size of a tv) and the rest was all fresh stuff! And thats all we´ve done so far! now we´re back at the hostel just writing this and we´ll soon be off to see the Lima ruins which have llamas and perivian dogs! Yay!
We´ve had loads of great info too off the other hostel manager Christian who has recommended a fish restaurant for us to go to for local dishes! he also gave us some local Spanish phrases, thank god!!
So we better stop hogging the computer, (we already froze it once)
we´re missing everyone already (espically my SCHOMMMMMMEWN and SMEEEEEEEEEG aleeega aleeega) and hope we havent bored you to death on blog 1.
All our love Fran and Turl xxxxxx
