Up and out from our golf club campsite early, in search of coffee.
First stop today is JERSEYville, which we are visiting for obvious reasons. The area surrounding it is all green pastures, cows and potatoes (we see a few roadside stalls with honesty boxes, selling pots). Unfortunately, it's only a few streets, so we don't even find coffee within it, but drive on to South West Rocks, a few kms higher up the coast. I'm extremely pleased just by seeing the Jerseyville sign, however.
We make breakfast in Brighton Park, South West Rocks, before driving down to Port Macquarie, our main stop for the day. This was built as a place of further punishment for convicts who committed crimes in Sydney.
We've been hankering for some more churches in our sightseeing, but unfortunately St Thomas' Church in Port Macquarie (one of the oldest buildings in the town - built in 1820s) is closed for funeral. We stroll through the shopping centre to the coast, hunting koalas. Not real ones, but fibreglass sculptures; part of a permanent public art trail called "Hello Koalas". There are a number of hippy looking koalas along the coast by the town green. Outside the historic courthouse (built 1869) is a mean-looking convict koala!
Across the road from the courthouse is the Glasshouse - a gallery/theatre/visitor centre. There's a small history section, where we learn about early Port Macquarie. In the gallery, we find lots of entertainment (definitely meant for children) and play a game of pictionary on an artists easel, followed by creating masterpieces in the 'Splish Splash Splosh' section...this is great fun. Why doesn't everyone do this more often?!
Back to pretending to be grown-ups, we drive to the Black Duck Brewery - a TripAdvisor recommendation. It has live music and is packed on a Friday night! Foxy gets a paddle of 4, to test out some avian named beers. The driver had some ginger beer, which was also very tasty.
Back to our golf club campsite tonight. When we arrive, we realise they're holding an "end of season" presentation evening for the Juniors. We awkwardly sneak in to the restrooms for our showers... A bit of reading, pasta pesto for dinner, and early to bed.
