It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring, be prepared folks when the currencies begin to mix, on the 14th of February 1966.
Still with this infernal song in my skull, we awake to a rain soaked Sydney. Boo.
We travel to Bondi Street markets, via coffee in Bondi Junction. This is because there is no direct bus route to Bondi from Coogee. To say we're unimpressed with Sydney Transport is a massive understatement.
So... rain at Bondi Beach today means it's been raining 2/3 times we've visited it! That's not just chance, surely?
The market was nondescript, no doubt adversely affected by the rain. So we take leave and wander down Bondi Beach. It's SO bright! Quite regretting not bringing sunnies. We pop into the North Bondi Life Savers club whilst waiting for Christy to pick us up for luncheon and admire the view. It's quite possibly a nicer view than that from Icebergs at the other end (where Christy had her 30th bday lunch in December)
Christy eventually shows up and we have luncheon a little inland from Bondi Beach. During lunch we reminisce about our Oz trip, talk about her work/life plans, and notice how the weather has magically perked up. In fact, it turns into quite a fine day.
Encouraged by this, Christy insists she takes us to the seaside (as per our original plan). However, as we've done Coogee several times, she takes us to Maroubra Rock Pools (not beach). It is immense. The nearby beach is legendary for its strong swell, and even Christy wouldn't swim there. However, the rock pools we are taken to are idillic. Here there was no real swell from the sea at all. We loved it, almost instantly placing this spot (just 5 mins drive from our Sydney bnb) up into our top 5 places in Oz.
Christy swims for a bit, but gets out soon after informing us that she could feel 'sea lice' in the water. We think nothing of it...
After we has sunned and swam, it was the short drive home in Christy's car to make pasta and pesto avec courgette.
Then as we're tired, but don't want to spend the night in, we go to the pictures! We head to the entertainment complex opposite the SCG, and watch "How to be single" which, was actually quite good. Although an American rom com, it starred an Australian comedienne in a slapstick role. The Sydneysiders loved it.
Our bus home should have been uneventful, but for the crazy man who I sat next to on the bus. I'm usually lecturing Alice how not to get drawn into a conversation with drunks/crazies, but here I was, politely nodding to this chap. We actually ended up having an interesting conversation, and as a security guard, said he would prefer there to be no pubs open past 11.00 so to stop violence. When I pointed out that this would put him out of a job, he held his opinion. He would rather be unemployed as the price of no violence.
After we got off the bus, Alice dos point out he could have bought this Security T Shirt anywhere... Which I hadn't thought of... Too trusting, me.
Home. Bed. 2 more sleeps to go. :(
...and then I notice that my back is really quite itchy. It's the 'sea lice' Christy spoke about. It's perfectly harmless, but causes a mild rash all over. Hooray for Australia! At least it's not sunburn. Now THAT would be painful.
