When i arrived at Johannesburg i stayed near the airport away from everything as i didn't want to be killed! Although a week after i left the hostel someone got mugged at gun point!!
Went on my way to Kruger National Park where i did a safari for 4 days 3 nights. The campsite was pretty luxurious considering it was a campsite! we had beds in the tents and electric fence around the perimeter..... and even a swimming pool!
During our time on safari we saw all the 'Big 5' and got soaked in the leftover of the monsoon that hit Mozambique. We also did a walking safari through the park and came out alive so nothing to worry about! After leaving Kruger we visited a chimpanze sanctuary and stayed in a luxury lodge. I got electricuted by the fence though as i got up too close to it!
Stayed in Nelspruit for one night but that was plenty as a young boy got stabbed the day before so glad i left! Went to Swaziland and stayed for 4 nights, had a really good time here and met some cool people and drank alot and had a Braai everynight (BBQ). Also went on a cultrual tour of Swaziland, went to the markets and to a real village where the locals put on a show for us.
Had some more fun in Swaziland by almost having a giant rock thrown at my head! some drunk locals didn't like us after going shopping and almost throw a giant rock but luckily another local stopped him just before it left his hands! Randomly saw a lunar eclipse when we were up drinking one night which was cool.
On to Durban and went out for a meal with some people i met in Swaziland, we asked the waitress where was good to go for a drink, she told us 5 mins walk down the road but told us to get a taxi as someone had recently been stabbed and robbed down that street! What a nice place!
Had a really good time in Port St Johns, the place is really chilled out in the day and a big party at night time. Went to a pub one evening and all the local kids come along and love the attention from the tourists and love getting picked up and swung around. Stayed up one night with the barman until sunrise drinking all night..... next day was pretty tiring though! Did a school, village and waterfall visit while i was in port st johns too. If i had more time i would've definitly stayed longer but had to move on and went to Coffee Bay which was more of the same again but again had a really good time and met some more cool people!
Went to Cintsa and suprisingly won a pool competition considering how rubbish i am!
Moved onto Port Elizabeth and Kyle Jeffrey's Bay where there's a nice beach and loads of surfing shops, it was a nice change to actually get some shops and civilisation!
I went to Outshoorn so that i could ride an ostrich but my beer belly said otherwise and i was too heavy to ride one!!! Had a really good time there though, did a 54km bike ride, did an adventure cave tour where you climb through holes (it reminded me a bit of the franz josef glacier walk in new zealand) but obviously not as hardcore as that! also visited the ostrich farm! The barman at the hostel was really cool too, he kept on giving us loads of free drinks so we stayed up all night drinking for free.
I was going to do a crocodile cage dive where you get put in a cage and drop you into the water with the crocs but unfortunatly couldn't do it as someone had got stabbed there earlier that day! what is it with stabbings in south africa!!
I did however do my shark cage dive though which was amazing, one of the sharks even rammed into the cage when i was in it. The holes in the cage are massive, i'm suprised no one has had any limbs eaten yet! i could just see the headlines.....
"Police find traveller's body.....head still missing!"
Cape Town was an amazing place but not without it's controversy..... i got my card swiped at the ATM machine by some big black guy, so i obviously cancelled it! (this was on my very last night too!!) also same thing happened to my mate on the same night. As i was leaving 2 people got mugged from the hostel by a couple of guys with knives...... nice!! but apart from that i loved Cape Town! did a cape peninsula tour around cape of good hope and the amazing coastline. Climbed up table mountain and visted Arjen Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was held in prison for all those years. On my last night apart from getting my card swiped i also did a pub crawl with loads of people from the hostel which was good and a cool way to finish off my travelling
So........i'm home now anyway, 8 months has come to an end and i'm back in sunny swindon......great!!
