Faye and Michelle's Big Adventure
Our journey from hell finally ended when we arrived in San Pedro Sula at 6pm that night, 4 hours later than schedule. We had to quickly grab all our things and rush over to the Tica bus terminal to try and get a ticket to Nicaragua the following morning at 5am. As I expected, we got to the ticket office minutes after it closed. Not sure what the hell we were gonna do or if we´d ever make it out of Honduras alive we had no other choice than to stay the night and hope to sweet jesus someone would be selling tickets on the bus at 5am! We took a cab to a nearby hotel and im sorry to say there isnt much to write home about San Pedro Sula. There is a problem with gangs and violence in the area and this was apparent on every street corner we drove by. There are lots of dodgy looking characters looking all sorts of dodgy. Everyone at the station stared at us like we shouldnt be in their country let alone their bus terminal. We ate some rubbish food across from two police who had rifles on their laps pointing straight at us. Our hotel was suprisingly comfortable however and we even had cable TV in our room which made a nice change from God damn s***head. We got a few hours sleep and at 4am left to go back to the bus station. We jumped for joy when we got to the bus station and there was someone working on the ticket office. The a****** who was working destroyed our good mood however with a gruff "bus is full" when we got to the booth. Faye, determined for us not to spend Christmas in Honduras marched us to another bus agency and when they were closed we had no other option than to get on another god forsaken chicken bus and head to the city, Tegucigalpa, with the hope of getting a bus from there to take us to Nicaragua. 13 hours and 4 buses later we finally made it over the border and into Ocotal, a small town 4 hours from Granada, Nicaragua. We spent the night here in a basic (tin roof, cockroach ridden beds) little hostel that cost us $4 each and managed to get a couple of hours sleep before YET ANOTHER BUS at 5am to Granada...
