Hello everyone!!, well i finally made it to Thailand after my little postponement nursing some broken bones and it has been worth the wait. I have those little s**ts who took a liking to my head to thank for having to sample some of that cold weather back home but it has made the warm weather here much appreciated!!
Ill try and make these enteries entertaining but those who know me will appreciate i might find that a little tricky!!
Arrive in bangkok last monday after a 11 hour flight, it was pointed out to me by Ewan while checking in at the airport that i was the oldest backbacker there.. that made me feel good!! but he was right as i got plonked on the plane next to a young lad from Cambridge who had just finished uni and was off to oz with some money from mummy... how the other half live!
First impression i got when i flew over bangkok into there new airport is smog.. you couldnt see much for smoke and haze but it looks huge. got through passport control after a breif scare about not having a Visa and thinking it would be the shortest trip ever!! I got picked up by a 'man in a van' from my guest house in bangkok. he'd been waitng ages as my frickin rucksack was just about the last one to come out.. panic number 2 over!!
The drive to bangkok was crazy, lanes?? what lanes?? undertake, overtake, left, right, you name it they do it.. i just closed my eyes and hoped to get there in one peace!! driving into bangkok and almost all the Thai people were wearing yellow !! wierd, thought it was just what they did but apparently its in homage to the king here.. hes the 'main man' and insult him at your peril.. i did take the mickey out of a picture off him on a wallboard but dont think the driver heard us!
Stayed the first night near Koh Sahn road which is Backbacker central.. i walked to find it, went down it 3 times before i realised where it was.. wheres a map when you need one!! had a cool beer and realised how strong the beers are here. start at 6%.. welcome to heaven.. 4 bottles later and ,y mouth burning off on a thai spicy curry i litterally staggered home.. Welcome to Thaiand!!
Met Jo and Helen the next day on Koh Sahn Road and went and had a lunchtime beer... 4 hours later... we went checked into a dodgy guest house to dump our clothes and return to our seats to carry on.. after a 3 lite pitcher of Chang beer we decided to go to Pat Pong which is more commonly known as Ping Pong for obvious reasons.. got on the back of a Tuk Tuk which is the little bike at the top and when to the seedy area of Bangkok.. obviously against my will!! I never realises just how taleented the the ladies of bagkok are.. the things they can do with Ping Pong balls, razors, darts and sparklers made my eyes boggle.. of course they wanted a tip but we said no and was given the middle finger by a fat one and tolf to f**k off! nice!!
Went back and got blottoed onthai whisky and coke!! how nice is that!! came out of a club at 2 and walked completely the wrong direction! realised 5 ,imutes later and wentback to the room.. no sign of the girls.. or my little sucksack!!! ahhh the theiving gits!! so i tudged to reception and told the thai man id been broken into.. he said 'you tell police' i told him to bloody do it himself.. so he did!! police arrive, i went into my room only to see someone in my bed.. damn.. wrong floor.. what a buffoon. Police must have though what an idiot!! went to my room policeman looked under my big rucksack and hey presto.. theres my little one!! ohh dear!! the nice policemen then searched every centimeter of my bag to find anything but luckily i got off with a little backhander to keep him sweet. The end of an eventful night.. must go now so will continue in a few day. Stu
