So - just had the best buzz ever, and 2hours afterwards still buzzing like mad - just did my first skydive!!!!!!! Yes, me, I jumped - well, didn't really jump, out of a plane!
Oh, it was the best experience. At first we didn't think that it would happen today - myself, Rainer, Fredric and Monika decided a while ago that we would do it but after being rained out in Taupo, we were just praying that we would get to do the jump today.
So, after a very interesting morning at the gysers (which smelt a lot) - I called N-Zone at 1.25pm to check that we could still do the jump. And yes, confirmation came through, we had half an hour to get ready and meet our fate! So, half an hour came and went, our driver was late - letting the nerves build up that little bit more. I tried to calm myself by listening to all my favouriate songs on my MP3 player, certainly worked until we got into the bus and our driver from Bolton (yes, the English get everywhere) started on about the diving. For the rest of the group it was a blessing in disguise that he was from Bolton - no one else could understand his accent!
So, anyway, we got to the office, had our breifing and watched a vid of what would happen. We then chose our heights - all of us choose 12000ft (40seconds of freefall). So, it was the girls up first as we had to go out in pairs. Met our tandam masters - I had Eric, silent chap but pretty good. We got into our gear and before we knew it we were being sheparded into the plane.
As, we were going up, the nerves were getting a bit of the better of me. Eric had a quick chat and told me what to do - smile at the camera, you'll be fine! He also strapped me in - very odd feeling being strapped to some guy that you've just met! After 15mins we reached our height and Monika went out first. Thats when I felt really sick, but no time to think, Eric shuffled over to the door -legs out and out we went! As we went out- did a bit of a rolypoly as we went! We free fell for a while - I screamed the whole way down! But it was totally wicked! Loved every second of it! The clouds were coming closer and closer - as we went through the cloud, had a little issue breathing, but soon after that the chute was deployed and we went back up! After that it was a breeze to come down, sat in the harness, Eric driecting us in - me struggling to hear and trying to get my ears equalised again. The view was sooooo cool from up there - saw all the lakes and fields with a few hundred sheep. Coming into land, I was really sad - wanted it to last longer. As soon as we got to the ground and I was unstrapped, I just wanted to get back up there! It was amazing!
After us, the boys went up. Fredric had a little issue - the first chute didn't open, luckily thats why they pack a second one! He ended up free falling twice (and spinning even more), making the poor love feel a bit sick! We were told when they got back on the ground that things like that only happen 1 in 1000 times. Just glad it didn't happen to me!
So, have had the most awesome day - would def reccommend anyone to do it! best experience ever!!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxx
