Ok - so I'm being really lazy here as I'm really behind in my blog and just going to give you all summary of my trip in Cambodia.
th May. So, after the really horrid trip into Cambodia we all decided that we deserved a day's rest. Still got up relativly early and headed to one of mine (And Angelina Jolie's) fav restaurants, the Red Piano for a spot of breakfast. We then just chilled out, did a bit of shopping around the markets. Ross was having a bit of an image make over, so we went shopping with him. His first purchase was a new bag (note - at the time he was already carrying 2 bags, hence earning the nickname bag boy for the rest of the time in Siam Reap). Didn't really do much, all day. Went to a Khmer restaurant that evening - was really nice food. Managed to find a bar where they were showing the footie. Even though we were happy about the Man U result, the result of the night had to be the 8-1 to Middlesbrough! Which was made all the sweeter as I was sat next to Tony the Newcastle Fan, whose team had just lost to Everton!
th May. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUM AND ASH!!!! LOVE YOU BOTH LOTS. Decided that for the 1st day at Angkor, that I wanted to see sunrise. Hum...rainy season, very cloudy, sunrise??? Ok, so not one of my best ideas but it did mean that we got a lot of the sites before the crowds got there. Angkor was beautiful, I love it there and it does still stuns me when I go there. I think it always will, its just one of those places that is so serene (when the tourists aren't there). I will always enjoy going there, no matter how many times I do it. That afternoon, I took some time out to do some calls and emails - ended up being sat in the internet cafe for a few hours whilst the roads outside turned into rivers in the space of 20minutes of rain. It was totally crazy.
th May. Had a very chilled out day whilst the rest of the group went off to Angkor. Got a full body massage ($5 - bargin if you ask me)- was bent and pushed into positions I don't think my body has ever been in but was absolutly fab! Felt so much better. Met up with a few of the other group in the evening, was nice to see them all!
th May. Got up pretty early and headed off to Phenom Pehn, the capital of Cambodia. Was a nice easy journey to PP, only 6 hours in a comfortable bus. Got to PP and was surrounded by tuk-tuk drivers. Managed to get one who thought he knew where the guesthouse was that we wanted to stay in, drove around for about half an hour before we just decided to go to where we started from and stay near the river side in the Angkor international. Was a pretty decent place - $15 for a room with hot water, air con and a TV! yay! Went out for some dinner, discovered that it was the King's birthday celebrations, so everyone was out on the riverside enjoying the fireworks. Had dinner, then back to the hotel and watched some TV! Was great!
th May. Spent part of the day with Mrs Chang (Jen's dad's friends wife), really nice lady who was born in Vietnam but spent most of her life in Cambodia whith her husband. She took us out for lunch to a Khmer/ Vitenamese place. Was nice and had some local specials. She also took us to the market where Jen got some very expensive Durien ($3/kg) and also some mangosteen - love the fruit, think I'm liking it more than Rambutan now. They took Jen out for food in the evening, but I wanted some alone time, so went out for dinner myself. When Jen got back, she told me that the Changs had very sweetly offered to take us for Indian food if thats what I preferred eating! Very nice of them! Again, settled down for the evening to watch Star World!
th May. Went out again with Mrs Chang, she took us to have facial's done. Which was great cause my skin was looking pretty awful. We then went out in the evening for Thai food to a place called King Suki Soup. Never had anything like it before but was really cool! Came home to the hotel- and yes, you guessed it chilled out to the sounds of American Idol on Star World!
th May. Didn't do much as it was raining for the most part of the day but in the evening finally got to go to my fav restuarant - Friends. Love this place and its still as good today as it was last time we went! Finally got the book for Manisha as well!
