HELLO FROM AFRICA!!!! he he ...
Well, as you may have guessed we have made it to Africa! We flew out of Mauritius this morning, and flew into Nairobi Airport this afternoon, meet our transfer driver and have bunked down for the night in a little 40ft container decked out with bunks for the night with our tour group. We head off at 8.30 tomorrow morning for the Masai Mara reserve ... bit exciting!!!
Our flight was good, bit bumpy but not too bad. We flew right over Mount Kilimanjaro ... was awesome, and so clear from the plane, it's HUGE! (Also flew over another aeroplane ... WTF???). Arrived into Kenya no prob's - apart from the fact that we packed 98% of our money into our checked in luggage, and when we got off the plane and needed to buy visa's all of a sudden realised we didn't have much cash on us, and we needed 100USD, oops! Lucky we srounged through all of our pockets and backpacks and came up with .... 101USD! Ha, how good was that!!!! Mind you, it was mostly in 1 and 5 dollar notes, so I'm not sure how good the immigration guys thought it was!
Once the driver picked us up we thought we were right ... but we have never heard a car make so many funky noices, it was nutso, we thought the floor was going to give out!!! And the driving, made me feel right at home! So all in all, so far we haven't seen much of Africa (not even an animal!) but first impressions, it's so dry and dusty it's crazy, and people selling things all along the highway. Picture a back road to Coopers Creek - that's the highway, but bitumen, and then imagine every couple of steps someone selling a hat, or a soccer ball to the cars passing by. And walking between the cars, like the window washers do at the traffic lights in Melbs ... Some even had little fridges in carts and were selling coke or ice creams!!!
Karen is the name of the town, I guess you'd call it, that we are staying in tonight. It's about half an hour drive from Nairobi and we are surrounded by 12ft fences ... hmmm, I guess that's a good thing???!!! Better than everyone else having fences, and us not ....
So, we are heading off tomorrow on the big adventure ... not sure when or where we will next get to update this, but hopefully it'll be soon with lots of pics (not allowed to upload them here or we get in trouble, better not annoy the tour operaters an hour after arriving). We are missing everyone heaps and heaps, prob me more than Fluke, but I'm a bit of a sook that way!!! he he.
Till next update, love Fluke and Spud
N.B ... love you too Kaino, and miss you heaps and heaps and heaps! Make sure and give Willy Jim a big cuddle for us and look after my vegie garden! :)
