For the 1st time on our trip we stayed in a youth hostel (6 days in can't be bad).
The must see sight here was the Atomic bomb site. The A bomb had hit the city in 1945 6th August ( almost 62yrs to the day ).
For someone who has little interest in history (Matt), I was captivated by the story and sites that we saw. Seeing the A dome, the former promotions hall - a centre piece for pre-war Hiroshima - we were in awe of the destructive capabilities of an atom bomb, and horrified.
This A dome has been preserved as a reminder to locals and visitors from around the world of what happened.
Out next stop was a collection of stories from Japanese people of there experiences of the war. It was also horrific and captivating to read.
We then visited the Peace Memorial Museum, which had a lot more information to give, and unfortunately we did not have the time to read everything as fully as we'd have liked. (the 'before' and 'after' photos were taking of two models here).
We both learnt a lot from our visit, it was a shame it had to be so short.
That afternoon we were off to Aso San (via Fukuoka).
