An early start this morning - whipped down to the morning market for breakfast and then back to our Hotel to be picked up by the local version of a Tuk Tuk (this being a strange hybrid part motorcycle / part van that carries up to 9 passengers).
Today we were off on a boat trip up the Mekong to visit a cave that houses a Temple. The boat was one of those low slung wooden efforts with a big motor and a full length drive shaft back to a small prop.
The temperature at 8:30 AM was 13.6 degrees and once we were whistling along the river that seemed hot by comparison - it was very cold indeed as can be imagined by some of the photos. It can be quite foggy here in the mornings and it can't really warm up until the sun breaks through.
On the trip the boat stopped at the "Whiskey Village" which had a nice Temple and various types of whiskey for sale, together with woven goods.
Further on up the river the cave itself is no challenger for the Jenolan Caves but it does hold many Buddah images, this giving it a dramatic flavour - especially as the rocky outcrop itself is very similar to the Karsks in Ha Long Bay.
After a fairly short stay it was back on to the boat and back to Luang Prabang.
That night we went to dinner at the Riverside Barbecue Restaurant for the local specialty. I'll cover that off in my next post.
Cheers,
