I´ve been *hiting through a needle and had a posse of married pervert men in suits (and ones without teeth) chat me up. I´ve had photos taken of me and yeah....erm I could say I have been more comfortable in my life before...
OK, I´m sat in this internet cafe in Arequipa, Peru. I just walked in and did the usual pointing at the computer (these ones look shockingly new!) and saying internet. We understood each other. Awesome. I guess I´m realising how far away from home I am right now. No wireless. Going to cafes, picking up my scripts, going back to hostel then back here to the cafe! It´s ok! Today I got up with a RAVING hangover - i´m unsure if I can do this whole trip for 12.5 weeks to Rio! It´s exhausting! I´ve opted out of going out with the girls I´ve met tonight - need Flip time! So 9am I waddled off with my new travel companions, Wendy, Maz, Romana and Lea to get a bus to a orphanage (which Wendy worked at for 3 weeks before joining the trip). First we went via the main church to have a look in the plaza. The bus was a mini bus where there was a driver and a ticket kinda guy. The door was always wide open and you kinda had to jump quick into bus as it didnt really stop! I was slightly concerned as I was sat right by the door - no seatbelts and the driver was a manic! The worse was yet to come there was a radio station blaring out ´Madonna´s -Like a Virgin´too.....
So I got to the Orphange, so sad, but Winnie the pooh and bambi painted to the walls, really clean too. It is run by nun´s, where blue. They came from all over South America. All the children were disabled and some spitting and drooling etc....not my kinda thing, but was an interesting experience. We took the children outside to eat and they seemed quite happy. One kid wanted to go on the swing, but kept screaming at me (kid - I get that you´re disabled, but like I have a hangover). The children then said ´pray´for us. So sweet and I hope they have a happy life as what they can. Heartfelt stuff over, got on the ´like a virgin bus´again, only 75c, which is like nothing and their buses run every 5minutes...ENGLAND listen up - they have better public transport!!!
Went to a muesum to see an íce girl´who´d been found up and scaraficed by the inca´s on one on the surrounding volcanoes. Was ok....I was just over tired. Interesting that the inca´s used to scarafice the children - the pure and the most beautiful. It was considered an honour. Surely you´d want to keep the hotties to make cute kids/race?
Grabbed supermarket lunch in the main plaza (so save dosh). then went via a clothes shop (as i just feel constantly dirty in this country for some reason) The air quality and high altitude is horrible. Had a nap and here I am.....Friday 20th Nov.
now let me catch you up...Tuesday 17th
We left at 6am.....6am.....yuk! We as in met the 20 others on this overland bus. All seem nice, but I know I´m going to need my space!) Got on the bus, were given lockers and showen aroudn the bus. We went to Ballesta islands on a boat (after 4 hour journey playing cards and stuff!). We saw seals, tons of birds, penguins etc. Really cool. Although when there are seals it really smells.....worth a visit! Had peru lunch by the docks (ham and cheese sandwich and the best thing ever ínca cola´, which is like cream soda, but looks like wee.) Then back on the bus and off to sandboard and spend the night in the dessert!!! Awesome. Beautiful. We went out in 10 seater sand buggies went up an down steep slopes and then did some boarding!! Took us to watch the sunset on the buggies....So cool........ quiet,`peaceful, beautiful. We then camped out under the stars with a campfire. Had a BBQ and drank!!
Wednesday 18th
Woke up next to a now dead fire, relly early and went straight back to our bus. Sand obviously everywhere. Was amazing. We drove 4 hours or so to Nazca to check out the lines! We went via a supermarket to buy pillows and lunch! hurrh!! Once we got to the campsite (Camping tonight in proper campground) we went straight onto a flight around 1pm to check out the Nazca lines (the incas or someone but them there for a tourist trap). I puked basically on a tiny 6 person plane that went over the famous Peru Nazca lines. I´m bein honest, but they were pretty lame. First of all you had to REALLY REALLY look to see them and the pilot would circle each of the 14? pictures in the landscape that it was like an hour rollercoaster...a bad one. The pilot put me next to him in the front. Im not a good flyer, so this freaked me out. Plus he kept holding my hand I was like erm......hold the *ucking plane. Again, another Peru pervet liking the blonde white women. At one point he grabbed my hands to put it on the controls of the plane - this was the moment I´d had enough and grabbed a sick bag and puked 3 times. sexy eh?! BUT he then left me alone and we flew back to land! haha! Had to sleep off feeling rough for a few hours then sausage and mash cooked by s few people on the tour bus (Which took forever). We all played abit of a*******.
Yesterday -Thursday 19th nov, up at 5.30am! Yep!! 5.30am! sooo tired, tent packed up (As camping that night in Nazca). Breakfast banana at 6am and away by 6.30am. We drove all along the coasts winding roads from nazca to Arequipa - we got here at 5pm via a lunch beach stop of a sandwich. Went straight out for grub at ´Daddios´and had some steak of the plaza (well infact a whole meat fest of goodness knows what..maybe even dog!) - I shared this with a girl ´Liz´on the trip. Went onto a few bars and drank and drank and drank. Danced to this band in the last bar, which was next to a club. While outside getting some air we realised all that were going in the club were men in suits. The men in suits then realised all the ´white´females were in the bar and crawded in, perved, bought drinks and invaded my space. I left with some others around 1am. Good night until those suits turned up....
So tomorrow I´m off to Cuzo ad Cola Canyon (its the deepest n the world until another one was found last year apprantly!! (i mean how can you miss a deep big hole??!)) Machu Pitchu inca trail awaits at the end of next week...4 days hiking.....As the terminator says í´ll be back.......erm..hopefully!!xx
