Ok so im back in Peru now and in a way kind of pleased im not sure Venezuela was for me but by the end of my time there i was beginning to get used to it and actually enjoying it.
Since last time I spent a day looking around Ciudad Bolivar, this was quite a nice little city compact and with a variety of things to do, i went to the botanical gardens and to see a giant statue of Simon Bolivar this is an american guy who was the first to discover the angel falls they are obsessed with him in Venezuela every town or city has a plaza named after him and their currency is named after him as well, after seeing this i went down to the river that divides the city and walked around a massive local market before heading to a modern art museum, this was really interesting lots of interactive exhibits and a whole section based on optical illusions.
The next day was the start of my trip to the Angel Falls and a fairly early start, the day began with a flight into the Canaima national park it was on a really small plane much like the one i was in over the nasca lines just room for 4 of us and the pilot and bags, but this flight wasnt as bad quite stable in comparison but i dont really like these planes they just dont seem that safe. Anyway once in the national park we had a few hours to ourselves to explore the little town and the area around the lagoon then after luch we got in a boat and travelled around the lagoon to some smaller waterfalls where we went swimming and on walks right behind the falls getting absolutely soaked and having a natural shower which was amazing!! We walked around the national park a little bit looking at a lot of tipuy's (table top mountains) the scenery was stunning part of the national park is where they filmed some scenes in Jurassic Park apparently. Anyway that was the day over with and we went back to the hotel near the airstrip for an early night before we travelled by boat to the Angel falls the next day. The following day we set off shortly after breakfast, on a small canoe type of boat on a journey that was supposed to be around 3 hours to out camp near to the Angel Falls, the journey turned out to be a bit of a nightmare tho, the boat sank, and took us the entire day meaning we couldn't actually see the falls that day because when we got to camp it was already getting dark. The fact the boat sank really anoyed me at the time, it was through the guides stupidity that we sank but now looking back it is actually really funny and a good story, although everything was soaking wet and meant it was a really cold night sleeping in the hammock and my camera broke but it was well worth it because when we got to the angel falls the next morning after an hours trek at sunrise the sight was amazing, i spent about an hour and a half there watching them from different viewpoints and after the sun had fully risen a rainbow formed in the mist at the bottom of the falls, it was a brilliant thing to see and im so happy that i got there despite the boat, anyway we went back that day without sinking this time and quicker because of the current of the river.
That night i got a bus to the coast and then spent the last of my days in Venezuela just relaxing on the beach it was a nice litle place that i went to called Santa Fe it had a really busy little fishing town where boats pulled up to the shore and the locals were buying the fish from the back of the boat and the weather was boiling, so i was glad to be by the sea.
I had a long day of travelling from there back to Caracas then to Lima and one that was kind of stressful beacuse i never really knew when i was going to get to the airport or if i had enough time, but i just managed and everything turned out to be fine.
I had a couple of days to sort things out in Lima and then a horrible 26 hour bus journey to Cusco where i am now getting ready for my 5 day trek to Machpicchu which im so excited about. I leave tomorrow morning.
