Day 3: For those in the city...you'll never know the sound of silence, and I mean deathly quiet, until you stay overnight in NSW's outback, in the middle of nowhere! Amazing!!!
We set off early today and made our way to the South Australian border. Passed through the amazing town of Broken Hill, where we had to relieve ourselves of apples and tomatoes : (
We refueled at the border town of Cockburn, where we stepped back and forth from state to state (of course!).
The landscape changed very little...still very flat, and very dry. Many a creek bed we crossed with not a single drop of water...some look like they've been without water for years! And emus...lots of emus.
Then in the distance...Mt Remarkable. A sight to behold after kms of flatness. We were heading into the Southern Flinders Ranges. How amazing is the landscape of Australia? So beautiful.
And what a view of Port Augusta and the Spencer Gulf as we came through the hills. Another incredible sight and change in the lay of the land.
A quick refuel at Port Augusta and we were determined to get to Pimba Rest Area before 5pm. And we did! But what a drive. The flatness again, so incredible.
You may have noticed how much I talk about the land...but it is so amazing! You have to see it to believe it. And no photo will ever do it justice. The colour...so red. It is (dare I say it again)...INCREDIBLE!!!

kazza k wow, looking forward to experiencing it myself one day...soon, bless you guys. are you driving more than 4 to 6 hours a day?
fionap Hi Karen. We have been for this leg of the trip...not that much to stop at and see. Endless hours of flat with roadhouses the only point if fueling up and o/n accommodation. No attractions. Very barren place. So we figure, if all are travelling well, which the kids have been, might as well push on. X
