Day 10: Darcy and I had decided the day before that we would brave the 6.5km Kings Canyon Rim Walk. However, we needed to get an early start to miss the heat...so I set my alarm for 6.00am. Yes that's right, 6.00AM (for those of you who know me...not my best or most liked hour!).
Do we set off, leaving the others sleeping, weetbix in the belly and two backpacks full of water and energy food (bananas). The park sign said it would take about 3.5hrs, so we knew we were in for a good stretch of the legs.
The very beginning of the walk is a very steep, 40-50m incline! I'd say at about 15-20m, I was questioning a) why did I want to do this this? and b) why did I think I could do this? All the while Darcy is graciously waiting for me way ahead of me!
However I pushed on and at the top it was totally worth the heart attack (!). We saw the sun rise and what a place...like we had landed on a different planet. AMAZING! The most amazing rock formations and the canyon, just incredible.
Darcy and I powered around that canyons rim, and enjoyed all it had to offer. Got some great shots and spent some excellent one-on-one time. We also arrived back at the car park in 2hr18mins. Woohoo. Kicked butt!
We got back to the campsite and headed straight off on the road to Alice Springs. No time like the present.
