Ola Buenas Tardes
Is is currently 7:30pm here on Thursday evening and I have spent the afternoon wondering the amazing ruins of Palenque. Very picturesque as it is surrounded by jungle forests and you can hear monkeys in the distance.
I will be brief with this blog as I got 3/4 of the way through it yesterday and lost it all and today I am limited for time as my peso's are low as I am just a day or two away from Guatemala.
I left Mexico City just under two weeks ago. It was sad to say goodbye as it is one of the most enjoyable cities that I have visited in my travels throughout the world. I left a day later as I spent one day in bed sick as the street eating did finally catch up with me.
So I travelled from Mexico City on to Tasco. A beautiful town built in the side of a mountain and I am sure you have seen my photo's.
(I am continuely adding photos so don't just wait for a blog to arrive before you visit my site)
In Taxco I visted the many jewellery stalls (at least 500 if not more) Made myself a couple of nice little purchases and enjoyed the festivities that were happening over the weekend.
From Taxco I travelled to Puebla. The home to 70 churches and the best mole. Prounounced Mole-Lay, it is a sauce made from fruit, chilli and chocolate and mainly served with meats. It was not too my liking but was interesting to try. I ate way to much in Puebla but when you can buy a 4 course set lunch for $3us it's hard to say no to.
So I rolled out of Puebla on to Oaxaca (pronounced Waa-Haa-Ka). Met a really nice Italian girl on the bus (who spoke very good spanish) and we hung out for a couple of days. Went to a small valley village to visit the Hierve del Agua and you can view the photo's of this in my album. The trip there was adventurous and the tasting of Mezcal (type of Tequila) was good fun and made us quite tipsy for the windy trip back. Ate some very good food in Oaxaca and it was probably just as well that I only stayed there 3 nights. On my last day there I visited another ancient ruin called Monte Alban which was very nice.
From Oaxaca it was back to the Pacific Coast to soak up some more sun. Caught a chicken bus for 70 peso's (7hours) to Pochutla and then got persuaded by a taxi driver to head straight to Mazunte rather than staying the night in Pochutla. I was glad that happened as it was only about 10-15 minutes to Mazunte and it was beautiful.
Met an American guy just seconds after I got out of my taxi and he had just arrived with 3 other peole so I joined them in the search for accommodation and also for dinner. We ate first and the searched the beach for somewhere to stay. Accommodation was basic and I stayed in this really cool place for 60 peso's ($6us night) with outdoor toilet and showers.
Elliott the American guy told me about his trip that he has just started and he is driving an old 1980 mercedes to the bottom of South America. He asked if I wanted to join him and I said I just might. We have now been travelling for 3 days together and I may end up in South America, Pananma or be over the fast paced travelling in a day or two. So my travel plans have changed yet again. This is quite exciting though as the whole of Central and South America is now so reachable for me and I am excited at what may lie ahead.
The beach at Mazunte was amazing and the water so warm. Went swimming at 7:30am one morning and it was just heaven. Also visited a laguna and saw crocodiles, birds and iguanas. Also went to a turtle sanctuary and saw some beautiful turtles. The food on the beach at the restaurants was fab and a great time was had all round.
After 4 nights in Mazunte we spent 10 hours driving to San Cristobel, a beautiful colonial town high up in the mountains and a lot cooler than the beach (went from wearing bikini´s to thermals in just 24 hours). Spent yesterday just hanging out there before making the windy trip to Palenque today.
So that is what has been happening - quite a bit really and quite a dramatic change to my travel plans which really I suppose I have none.
My next posting will be from Guatemala in a day or two as my travelling will be quite quick through Central America. If I found that it is all happening too fast then I will go my own way at my own pace but at this stage I see it as a bit of an adventure.
Have heaps of photo's to put on my sight but have had very slow internet for the last couple of towns so not sure how I will go now that I am heading in to Guatemala. Anyway keep an eye out.
Buenos Noches (good night) and I now have to tackle the mossies on my walk back to my Cabana. Wish me luck.
