3rd March - Today we sadly had to say goodbye to Bruce the car - dropped him at the airport before our flight back to Melbourne that morning. Arrived back there at lunchtime to a dramatic change in temperature - it was really hot! had a different hostel this time a bit nearer the centre and less like a mental asylum! we had windows in our room! In the afternoon we went out into the city and did some shopping before going back to the hostel and getting ready for Neighbours Night! we had a few issues getting there as we didnt leave enough time to get to the office where the bus was picking us up and so had to make our own way there! After walking halfway round the city we managed to get a reeeaaally slow tram to st kilda and then had to work out where we had to get off! luckily we spotted the pub and so made it there in time -although it was already packed! The evening was really good - there was a trivia quiz and competition, we got to meet and have pictures with Rachel Kinsky, Dillan and Janae Timmins and Dr.Karl Kennedy! Met some girls who we teamed up with but didnt do very well on the quiz! Then later on Karl's band played and were really good - did lots of covers (Oasis, Queen, the beatles) and a song about his life in Neighbours! He remembered Royal Holloway when I told him id seen him before - said it was 'very posh'! Dylan was really nice too - he got the most attention unsuprisingly! was a really fun night.
4th - Neighbours tour day! Had to get up really early as our tour was at 8.30 and we had to find some accomodation for the night before we went! (we had hoped to stay in the same hostel but turned out they were full! o dear!) Luckily, another one not too far away had room and so we booked a few more nights there - relief to have somewhere to sleep that night! Spent the morning on the Neighbours tour - we went on a minibus with a group of other people to Ramsay Street (which we didnt recognise to start with as its so much smaller than it looks on tv!). Took lots of piccys of the houses and with the Ramsay Street sign! Then visited Erinborough High (a real school) before going to the studios. On the way we were passed by several of the actors going into work - Ned, Toadie and Karl! Once we got there we got to meet Susan too - had pictures and she talked to all of us. We were glad it was a character we knew - thought there might be new people that we didnt recognise! On the way there and back the tour guide told us about upcoming stories and things - made us realise how behind we were! Once we got back to Melbourne we went and found some lunch and then walked back to the first hostel to pick up our bags and transfer them to the new one! It seemed really nice - bit like a hotel, rooms were much nicer than the last. The rest of the afternoon we spent round the shops again, did some bookings and found a krispy kreme shop which was quite exciting! Spent the evening at the hostel where we thought we'd take advantage of their 'free meal' - which was one slice of pizza - generous! we thought it was too good to be true!
5th - Had a lie in and spent the morning organising what we were gonna do from here - booked our first bus. Bought a picnic lunch and sat in one of the parks for some of the afternoon, then visited the Old Melbourne Gaol where we saw where Ned Kelly was hung - it was all a bit scary really, especially some of the mannikins in the cells - they had weird faces! Wandered round the shops a bit more then back to the hostel to cook our famous pasta and sauce dinner and do exciting things like washing and packing before our trip along the Great Ocean Road tomorrow!
