Hello again, sorry it has been such a long time since we wrote anything on here! We are currently in NZ safe and sound but I am going to get everyone up to speed on what we have been doing for the last month and a half.
Bolivia is probably one of our favourite countries so far. We left Cochabamba for Sucre a beautiful city further south where we chilled out and visited Joy Ride Cafe a cool gringo cafe with a cinema. We watched 'The Devil's Mine' there, a film about the people who work at the Potosi Silver Mines in preparation for us visiting then later on the trip. We also visited a site of dinosaur footprints which unfortunately werent as good as we thought they were going to be but interesting all the same.
From Sucre we travelled to Potosi the highest city in the world and I really started feeling the effects of the altitude, headaches and shortness of breath which carried on troughout the night which meant the next day I didnt visit the Potosi Mines but Tom did. They were really interesting but very scary. The tour group had to buy tokens of coca leaves, dynamte and 98% alcohol fr the miners to visit the mines. They said there prays to the God of the mine 'Tio' and went to see how the miners earned their wages. The mine is worked as a co-operative. They watched an explosion and the tunnels were liek an assault course on the way out!
The next part of the trip was the desert crossing into Chile. We started at the Salar de Uyuni, the Bolivian salt flats, the biggest salt flats int he world which were incredible. They are so flat we managed to make some really stupid photos! They really were impressive and that night we stayed in a hotel completely made of salt which was cool! Teh second day we travelled through the Atacama Desert through moon like landscapes, craters and lakes it was such a good trip, we travelled on 4x4s through the desert into Chile, and you couldnt half tell the difference as soon as you crossed over the border!
Bolivia was an amazing country definitely one of our favorites and so cheap!
