Find Vicki and Liz
We arrived late in Tahiti and slept like babies in our hostel. We woke to blazing sunshine, lush green mountains and the bluest sea you've ever seen. How excited were we?
We jumped on a ferry across to Mo'orea and then on a bus to Mo'orea camping. We had been concerned about the sheer expense of French Polynesia, but we were relieved to find basic execllent value accomodation right by the beach. The bikinis came out for the first time in weeks and we sunbathed all afternoon. It was heaven! The nightlife was non-existent in Mo'orea - card playing and drinking copius amounts of red wine was about as exciting as it got. Lights went out on the campsite at 9pm!
The next day we went for an early run and then, yes you guessed it, sunbathed some more.
Then it rained. What? It's supposed to be the dry season!
We banked on the rain passing and hired a car to have a look around - Cook's Bay (where the Captain allegedly first landed) and then Belverdere view point. Miraculously, the rain clouds vanished and we actually saw the view. Even the swarm of v loud American tourists disappeared. Things were looking up!
By mid afternoon we had circled the island and reached our starting point, and the heavens opened once more. We tried to visit some interior waterfalls, but the roads were flooded, so we handed the car back and prayed for sun!
We sadly bid farewell to Mo'orea. It would have been great to spend more time there, but we were both just as excited about making the final leg of the Trans Pacific flight to Sydney. Civilisation here we come...
