Jane's Travels
Ok, so it is our last day in Thailand before flying off to China tomorrow. We got here this morning on the sleeper train from Surat Thani after getting a cramped mini van and a longtail boat. It was a long day.
We left Railay in the morning and got the longtail boat across the water. The journey was great and i find longtail boats a brilliant way to travel except for the fact that they drop you about a mile (ok, 50 metres!) from the dry beach. This means you have to wade through murky water and over sharp stones with your bags but that isn;t too bad. The worst is when you then have to clamber over the squealchiest mud in the world that didn't look too squealchy and so you have put your sandals back on and then you get your foot stuck and almost leave the sandal in the mud as you pull your foot out!! Thankfully they had a tap on the dry beach so i didn't have to spend the day and the night with mud caked up to my ankles!
We were sad to leave Railay as it was really beautiful. There were several pretty beaches enclosed by high limestone karsts and the sunsets were lovely. The place we stayed was expensive for thailand-about 5pounds a night but it was a resort with aircon and tv and a pool and they showed the england game in the restaurant!! I think the boys will have to up their game if they fancy their chances of winning.
We spent a couple of days just chilling out and then went elephant treking in a rainforest nearby. To make it feel really authentic the rain poured down but the guide had an umbrella for us so i felt like a colonial lady on elephant back!
We also did a speedboat and snorkel trip round the phi phi islands which are gorgeous. We saw the beach from 'The Beach'and had a fabulously bumpy ride back to Railay.
We are now psyching ourselves up for china, which should be amazing and different.
I have been away for 2 months and it has flown. For all those people missing me like mad (and i know that is a lot of you!!) i'll be home in about 6 weeks which means i'm more than halfway through. Noooooooooooooooooo!
Bye for now.
Jane
