Jane's Travels
Ni Hao! Or, Hello! We are now in China.
We arrived 2 days ago and i have to say i wasn't too sad to say bye to Thailand. I was happy to leave the hassly people, the very many stray dogs at every turn(not good for someone like me who tends to panic at the first sight of a dog) and the slightly disapointing beaches (heck, when you have been to Hawaii every beach is slightly disapointing!) but will miss to great banana milkshakes and the gorgeous railay scenery. I managed to speak to Ann on my last night there which was great as we had managed to miss each other despite being in the same country for 3 weeks!
So, we got to Beijing on Thursday and i have been impressed with it so far. We are actually in a nice hotel for the first few days of our intrepid trip-a much needed bit of luxury before we head out to the tibetan plateau and have basic accommodation, no running water and have to chat to the person peeing beside us as doors on toilets will be unlikely! It should be a wicked experience.
Since being here we have pounded the city streets, been to the temple of heaven and met our group who all seem to be really nice.
We have been saving money by maning our own meals in the hotel room. We boiled the kettle, cut a wayer bottle in half, popped in some plain noodles and the water, let them soften and then added sweet chili sauce and some salad and used the trays from the room to eat off of! Gourmet i think you will agree! We ate out tonight and the food was really good-even the tofu tasted nice, which is something i never thought i would say!
We hit the great wall tomorrow and then tian anmen square the next day before jumping on a sleeper train to Xian to see the terracotta warriors.
So excited!
That's all folks.
Jane
