After an eventful time in Hanoi we were both hoping for more of the same in our next two cities Hui and Hoi an.....and they definitely didn't disappoint! Arriving in Hui we didn't have alot of time but we did manage to squeeze in as much as we could! Arriving at yet another luxury hotel we managed to slightly embarrass ourselves by walking into a traditional Vietnamese wedding! And surprise surprise it was the after party and what were they doing??????......KAROKE!!!They really can't get enough of it over there! We quickly moved on and planned our day in Hui. The big attraction here was the forbidden city, it was very impressive but you do have to walk a fair way and only the hardcore tourists managed the whole thing......Phil is not a hardcore tourist and gave up halfway to instead sit down and take in the view! Hui was also good for its local markets where u can pretty much buy anything u want and normally buy it for half the price u do at home! So we trekked around the markets and soon found out Will had a knack of going into a shop not intending to buy anything and then somehow gets dragged into buying lots of stuff which he doesn't really need.....I think last time we checked Will had a total of 6 bracelets, the weird thing is Will doesn't even wear braclets!
But to give him some credit Will did manage to buy something which could turn out to be a very useful bit of equipment for the next few months......an acoustic guitar! All for $6! We have a few guitar players in the group so Will had soon made a few new best friends when the guitar came out, and Will himself has also managed to learn a few tunes and is improving pretty quickly!
Next stop was Hoi an, and this place turned out to be our joint favourite plave so far! First of all it turned out to be the first hotel we stayed in which had its own swimming pool which is always a bonus but the best thing about this place is that there is not much else u can do in this place but go shopping and go to the beach! I think we can safely say me and Will went a bit crazy with the shopping but in our defence it was worth it and we safed alot of money! Hoi an an is most famous for its tailors, there were 300 tailors in Hoi an an but we were only interested in one tailor.....Mr Xe!!!!
We had heard positive things about this guy and so were pretty excited....but our mood soon turned! Lets just say you wouldn't want to be alone in a room with this guy....he could do anything. He took a particular shining to one of the guys (Stuart - see pic!) and did make regular attempts to touch his nipple and slap him on the ass........we soon moved on to find another tailor. When we did, we soon went suit crazy coming out of the shop with a combined total of 6 suits! (The pick of the bunch being a white pinstriped kasmir suit bought by Phil). I think the comment from the tailor when the white suit was put on was 'much more handsome!' I didn't know wether she was being truthful or wether she was just lying becasue she was desperate to make a sale.....either way I bought it!
Then came the hardest bit of the tour....lying on an amazing beach all day! Life is pretty tough sometimes out here. Phil kept up his habit of managing to burn himself, but to be fair he wasn't the only one!But the most interesting bit of our beach trip came on the trip back to the hotel. We had rented out bicycles and it was about a 20min cycle back to the hotel and for the people who really know Will, they won't be surprised to hear that we managed to lose him for about 2hours! We set off cycling only for Will to stop and look at buying some swimming shorts he'd seen in the market, his last words to us was 'i'll catch u up!'.............he never did catch us up! Infact Will managed to get lost, cycle 4km past our hotel and somehow manage to get dragged into buying some local pottery from an old woman who promised she'd tell him the way back if he looked in her shop....she never did tell him the way back but he did come back with a whistle made from pottery so all was not lost! But all turned out well in the end, he got some directions off some Germans and arrived back a good hour or so after everyone else! Two weeks into our 6month trip, and we had already managed to lose Will in a foreign country! I thought that was pretty impressive!.....
We were soon on the move again, this time we were on our way to 'Whale island', we had thought things couldn't get much better but again we were to be proved wrong! 'Whale island' turned out to be one of those places you only see on postcards and possibly you only see once in a lifetime.
But I'll stop there becasue your probably bored of this journal entry now but we should soon have up our journal entry on Whale island and also our final place in Vietnam, Saigon!......Hope all are well and hope to here from u guys soon!
