Still waiting for the Qld 'beautiful one minute, perfect the next'. Awoke to find everything damp due to heavy fog/dew which delayed departure whilst the canvas dried.
Charters Towers didn't seem any more lively on a Monday so maybe not the place to kick your heels up!
Arrived at a town called Prairie consisting only of a pub! Had a cup of tea (none of that cappuccino muck they serve in the cities) before taking a short cut to the Porcupine Gorge via a bush track which crossed the Flinders River. The river was a series of rivulets none more than half a wheel deep & about 50m wide. The problem was the sand base & what if I don't make it! Finally, I decided to cross & was reducing tyre pressures when another vehicle arrived. He said 'No worries, just follow me' and he was right - but I did churn up the river bed.
Booked into PG for 2 nights.
Highlight was the less than intrepid crossing of the Flinders River.
