The free camp last night was a bad mistake. Camping next to a straight section of a major thru highway makes no sense at all. And it was simply impossible to sleep. Every 15 secs a roar building to a crescendo put paid to that!
While packing up the big zipper on the camper cover decided to not engage so had to fashion a couple of straps to hold the cover down. Using the smartphone I located a canvas/tent business in Mareeba and got directions to the place. By 9.30am the zip runner had been replaced & I was good to go. And that was with Optus - obviously much faster with Telstra!
Headed off to Innisfail & then to Mission Beach - what a disaster Yarsi was! It's ok to read about the devastation etc but it doesn't fully register until you see it for yourself. The foreshore especially is ugly with so many dead or dying trees, most palms uprooted & muck everywhere.
I suppose it will recover but from what I saw it will take time, a lot of time! More of the same down to at least Ingham. It is so sad.
Camped at Lucinda, a sugar loading port. The rain is getting heavier & the wind is gusting - I wish I'd attached the extra ropes!
Lowlight was the mess left behind by Yarsi.
