Sunday 24th April
We get picked up at 9am to head to Halong Bay (by bus).At Halong Bay we all get put on a junk boat to sail through Halong Bay and get lunch. We all stop off at a cave. There are hundreds of people there. The cave is all light up like a Christmas tree. It's horrible, especially after coming from Loas.We eventually arrive at Cat Ba Island after a 4 hour tour through Halong Bay.We get on another bus for 1 hour to our hotel. Our hotel is called Sunflower Two Hotel.I do not recommend staying here as it's in the red light district.Which we didn't know until the first night when you saw some strange things going on.
Monday 25th April
Today Hen, Si and I decide to hire mopeds to go around the island.I am really excited as we haven't hired one yet.Me and Hen share. It feels so free on bike.I love it!The scenery is spectacular. It is so peaceful and we see only a few cars or bikes on road and no tourists - just what we wanted. We head up to the National park.It is so beautiful. It costs 15,000 vnd to get into the park. There is a 2 hour trek up to an amazing view point. We head up.The forest is so alive. There are hundreds of different noises.Henry is looking for snakes! The boys then basically run up the hill like mountain goats! - so we end up getting to the top after 25 mins! I am knackered trying to keep up with them. The view is so worth it!There is a group of school children at the top. They ask to get their photos taken with Hen, Si and me.It's so funny - I think the girls fancy the boys, they are all giggly, it's so funny. After heading back down the hill we get back on the bikes and decide it's beach time! There is a paved walkway around one of the cliffs from one beach to the other. The second beach is even nicer than the first.
Tuesday 26th April
Today we are hiring kayaks! We get up early and go for breakfast down at the bakery, they do a fabby BLT.We get baguettes to takeaway for our picnic lunch and head off to get the kayaks.Hen and I have a bright yellow one. It's pretty cool.At first I'm a little anxious being out in the open water but then feel pretty safe.We go past floating villages and fishing villages. As we go past all the dogs on each floating house start barking and look like they are going to try and jump on the kayak! Hen sees a way through in one of the cliffs so we go through to a little enclosed bay.We go past many bays and small islands. The sun is shining and the water is a lovely crystal green colour. The scenery is so much better and unspoilt than Halong Bay.I am so glad we came to Cat Ba instead. It is so peaceful here. Some parts along the way are so quiet. There are no boats, no people, nothing, BLISS.We stop at a deserted beach for lunch. There is nobody around. They boys go off and explore for crabs and I chill on the beach. After an hour or so westart our long paddle back.It has been such an awesome day.Hen was so proud of the giant clam he found. He broke it open and it was massive!Tonight is our last night on Cat Ba Town.We decide that we need western food as we are so tired.
