Hi Everyone
Having left Harvey Bay and Fraser Island behind it was onto Rainbow Beach. I am still awaiting a convenient day to do a skydive, as everytime i try to do one the weather comes in! It's been really annoying. The same reason came up in Rainbow Beach. Even so, it is still a fun place, with a beautiful beach and surf lessons if thats what floats your boat. We got to Rainbow on Monday, and as you might have seen from the photos, we went out on Monday night to a bar called Dingo's. We have been bumping into a big group of girls and boys on the Oz bus, so we all went out togehter and the night was absolute carnage in the end. Really good fun though, played lots of drinking games, and partied to the wee small hours. Next day chilled out on the beach, before having a huge game of rounders and football with the Scottish workers at our hostel and other guests who were staying there. Although it wasn't too strenuous, it was nice to do some exercise to be honest. I have gone 4 weeks without even seeing a gym, so do some sort of activity which didn't include lifting a pint of beer was brilliant. Shez and i have even started doing a few runs just so that i don't become a huge porker by the time i get home.
After Rainbow was Noosa - it's like Kensington by the sea. We were greeted with a Hugo Boss store, a Aston Martin DB9, and about a million posh coffee houses and restaurants. Was such a nice place though, the first place in Oz where i've thought "i would actually live here". Got to Noosa on the Wednesday, and the first thing we did was go on a walk around the national park to try to spot some dolphins and whales. We didn't, but the sceenery was amazing - not like Fraser Island - but amazing. I spent the rest of the day chilling out on my own by the sea, walked round the shops, and generally chilled out. Although it is great to have found a huge group of people to go out with, it was really nice just to spend a few hours away from everyone doing my own thing.
That night we went to the Irish bar in Noosa. The State of Origin series is on at the moment. This is a competition between Queensland and New South Wales. It's 3 games of Rugby League, obviously the winner being the person with 2 wins out of the 3 or more. The first game was on when i was in Cairns, and Queensland won, so the atmosphere for the second game was great. We piled into the pub about 8, and watched with all the locals. The problem was me and Shez thought wine was a good idea - it was cheaper then everything else and we are bored of the taste of beer. But after 4 bottles in 2 hours, we were in no state to know what was good or bad! By 10.30 we were steaming, and went to a club called Koalas. I had been on the water since about 9.45, and taking one look at Koalas, decided enough was enough and went home to bed. Woke up in the morning not knowing who had won the game (i later remembered when reading the paper). So now, having previously been given the name of Big Gay Bear, i am now the Big Gay Alchie Bar!!! Shocking! (Mum please don't be ashamed, it was a great night and Noosa needed some livening up anyway, ha ha ha nervous laugh!!)
Spent Thursday recovering. It was a shame really because we had planned to go to Steve Irwins Zoo, but couldn't get up in time for it! The bus left at 8.30 am, and we rolled out of bed at 11!!! So Thursday was spent like any other day, by the beach chilling out. The weather is getting really cold now, so we are actually "chilling" out most of the time as well (see what i did there!). Thursday eve was spent at the cinema watching Ocean's 13, well away from any alcoholic beverages!
On Friday we made our way down to Brisbane. It was so good to be back in a big city. I've missed the hustle and bustle, and it was very different from the little towns and countryside that we have been used to over the past 4 weeks. We are staying at a place called Palace Central Backpackers, right in the middle of all the nightlife action. It's pretty cool, the bar last night was open till 5am! We did a little tour of what the nightlife was like, going to a place called Fortitude Valley - it's essentially the main street/streets where all the clubs and bars are! Was good, but wasn't a heavy one (Mum, you'll be pleased to hear that i bet!) and got in about 2ish. So today (Saturday) we are going to check out Brisbane, go on the river taxi's, maybe see if there is any museums or anything like that. Oh, and i need to fix my Walkman which has decided to break down on me (thanks lads!!)
So this week i'm off to Surfers Paradise, Byron Bay, the Surf Camp and then Sydney, where i will be meeting the Brother Nod! So i've got a whirlwind week ahead, leaving Brisbane tomorrow (Sunday), but thats just the way it is really.
Hope everyone is well, thanks for all the messages, keep 'em coming!! Ben & Snins - 1 month till Thailand! AWOO HOO
