Well... this is it.
Nine days until I fly into L.A.X. Los Angeles, California, USA.
After surviving 13 years of schooling, 6 straight years of university and 2 & 1/2 years of teaching, I have finally bitten the bullet and purchased my tickets and passport, organised my visa's and am heading out into the big wide world.
Talk about a delayed gap-year!!!
Now if I could just finalise my travel insurance and figure out how to pack everything I want to take into my backpack, I would be feeling a whole lot better about Monday 5th October, 2009. D-day, or in my case... V-day = Victory Day, as in the famous words of Stewie the wize cartoon baby from Family Guy - "Victory shall be mine". I have always dreamt of travelling, and now I am finally doing it!
The plan (ha, if you could call it that) --> fly to America, drive up the west coast on Highway 1 and arrive in Whistler, BC, Canada to commence a 1-2 year working / holiday, where I hope to learn how to ski & snowboard, work in... well... whatever jobs I can get, and experience the dream that is the 2010 Winter Olympics... ooh yeah!
After the ski season, I intend to backpack my way across Canada and the US of A, hit Route 66 (got u booked in Cat), gamble my hard earned $$ in Las Vegas, stand on times square, play Jazz in New Orleans and all the other touristy things, and then.... well.... thats where my plans end. I may head on down to explore Central / South America, or go back up to Canada for another ski season on the Whistler slopes.
For me, this journey will be the most unplanned, challenging, eye-opening, scary, exciting and amazing life-changing experience of my existance, and it could not come sooner!
So with a huge bear hug to my family and friends, I get ready to take a step into the unknown, and will try to share some of the best, funniest and just plain stupid experiences I have with you along the way.
Felicity
