South East Asia Adventure
Dear All
Well we had a fun packed last week in New Zealand. Which we spent in the North Island. We flew into Wellington, were we stayed for two nights so that we could visit the dentist. (My front cap fell out you can imagine how much fun I was -Fee)
Just before we go on and tell you all about the North Island - we just missed an earthquake in the South Island!!
While in Wellington we did the Museum of New Zealand history which was fantastic. We caught up with Jo - a friend of Judes.
We drove to Lake Taupo, which is the largest lake in the Southern Hemisphere. What is worrying is that it is actually a water filled crater left behind by the last volcanic eruption - it is still an active area!!
We went for a hike to Huka falls and passed a hot water stream on our way down and decided to have a swim on our way back (God bless Jude - she brought along our swimming gear!)
The day after we decided to make a quick dash to Auckland so that we could join some of the Kiwis (yes I know I have family everywhere -fee) who were going camping. Yes I mean real camping, not the sort where you have running water, toilets and showers - No the sort where you wash in the sea, go to the toliet in a "long drop". It was a national park called Tawharanui - about 2 hours north from Auckland.
Thankfully, the guys who got there first brought everything and I mean everything, picnic table, food tent with a BBQ and believe it or not they also had a kitchen sink! We had a great time (Fee- even if I got up and went for a "long drop" at 3am in the dark with something akin to a earwig crawling up my arm!)
While there we spent almost all our time in the sea- Even tried boogie bording which is so totally "Awesome" (been trying to fit that word in for weeks - they use it here all the time!)
On the way back to Auckland we caught up briefly with some more family, and to a Sunday roast dinner cooked by Uncle Alec, he fed about 10 of us - and the food was great - (but the bath and a real toilet was better)
The following day we went off for a day of sailing - which was great, we dropped anchor off an nearby island and swam to shore.
We spent the last day catching up with family and preparing for our next leg of the trip. Time ran short as it always does, but it was great to see almost all the Kiwi family. - We are already missing you and have over three months before we see anymore which will be in Canada.
I hope you enjoy the last two sets of photos finally found an internet cafe that had a fast enough PC to load them up.
Starting to miss you guys now, but not ready to come home yet. Don't forget to keep an eye on our site as we are in South America now
Love
Fee (yet to be edited by Jude)
PS I forgot to mention - We won the Lotto - NZ$65 - We bought a pair of socks!
