FARFRUMWURKEN
Well it's been a whirlwind four days here in Toronto. Since arriving into Toronto on Saturday a.m. we've tried fit in as much as humanly possible in just four short days.
Our first stop was the VIA Ticket Counter in Toronto. I had worked on my "refund" story all night on the train so that it was very convincing when I got to the counter. I knew exactly what was needed to be said to get my $400.00 despite the fact that the VIA lady in Vancouver said that I could "plead" my case. VIA had made it quite clear that because I paid the charity for this round-trip ticket, l would likely not be entitled to any refund considerations. I walked up to the counter, laid down my Visa and said I'm here......I'm ready to tell you my story.......and after a couple of clicks on her keyboard -- she said, all done - your account has been credited.
From there we headed to cousin Tony and Roswita's for some lunch in Etobicoke. It was nice to get caught up and gave Deborah the opportunity to see their new digs at 3 Lakeshore Dr. Such a big change from the old pre-renovations of the past.
Given that it was a little late Saturday night and the fact that it had been a couple of days since a real nice shower, we decided to head to a hotel up north in the Newmarket area. Water feels so nice when you haven't had some for a little while.
The next morning we headed over to Aaron & Tracy's new digs in Newmarket. In October they moved into their new home in Newmarket and they've made some excellent headway in getting things unpacked and set up. I finally got my introduction to Miss Hannah. She is truly beautiful. I had thought the moment that I put her on my lap, that her bottom lip would quiver and she'd let out a big cry - but I was wrong - nothing but a big smile and a very inquisitive look from those big brown eyes. I was right back on May 6th, 7 months earlier - I was truly in LOVE again.
All night Deb and I held her, cuddled here, tickled her and tried to hold her so close that the memory would be strong in the many months to follow. Tracy - Aaron, you've done an amazing job with Miss Hannah - she is truly a beautiful little girl as these pictures attest.
After some Chinese food (good choice Aaron) - we hit the sack for some shut-eye - but both Deb and I looked at each other with a little disappointment as the room wasn't moving and the sound of clickity-clack seemed to have disappeared.
After we drove Aaron to the GO train Monday am we headed east along Highway 7A to Tweed, Ontario to visit our friends Jim and Cathy at their new abode. After six long years it was great to get caught up. Before dinner Jim convinced me to play a race-to-seven series on his new pool table. With loads of trash talk, I very pleased to announce that I presently hold the Tweed Championship - it will be up to Jim to take this prestigious title away from me in Abbotsford. Then sitting down to gourmet Tapas and a lovely dinner expertly prepared by Jim, we set out to consume as much homemade wine as humanly possible before settling for a good night's sleep.
Back in Toronto, bags checked and waiting to have dinner with another long time friend and his wife - Dave and Sandy Brodigan - we're off to Ki Japanese here in the south end before we board our 22:30 departure back to Vancouver.
To those that we saw and those we didn't thanks for a great time here in the BIG SMOKE, we've missed Ontario - but we're looking forward to getting back into our bed once again. I'll continue my blog for the balance of this trip as we have four more night - five days of adventures on VIA still remaining.
If our trip out was any indication of the thing to write about, I'm sure that I'll have more to report over these next few days. Thanks to everyone who has read and made comments, I hope you've been able to laugh along with us regarding the trials and tribulations of our travels across Canada.
