I have just got back from a very eventful last few days on the Similan Islands!
This was a 3 day trip to carry out surveys on tourist behaviour whilst snorkelling on the islands. It started off by an hour and a half fast boat trip across from the pier to the Similan Islands.
Unfortunately I cannot upload any photos as my iPhone was accidentally dropped overboard and it is now drying in a bag of dry rice. I am praying that it will work again when I turn it on in a few days!
Well anyway, the trip over there was very choppy and a third of the tourists ended up being sick. It was chaos on the boat as sick bags were being passed around by the boat staff and the bin was filling up fast. We finally arrived and moved in to the staff house on Island No4 (there were 8 of us - six girls and two boys)
We had lunch and then carried out some surveys asking the holiday makers what they expected to see on their snorkelling trips. We also asked them afterwards if it met their expectations.
After that we relaxed in the staff bungalow and had a little nap.
On the second day we took a boat out to one of the nine islands to monitor the behaviour of tourists on the beach. Unfortunately this was when my iPhone fell in to the sea. It was in a dry bag but unfortunately I had not rolled it enough times and evrything got wet inside. Oh dear!
We did a few snorkel trips round a couple of the islands and I must say the fish were very beautiful. There are nine islands in total.
The third day was much of the same (snorkelling and monitoring people on the beach) and then we got a boat back and returned to the pier just after lunchtime. We got back to base about 6pm feeling rather pooped!
Now off to bed.......
Goodnight all xxxx
