Woke up at 5.30am after 5hrs sleep. Got a taxi to the airport and caught my flight here to Puerto Iguazu. As we flew here the pilot flew over the falls and everyone took photos. The pilot went around so that people sitting on both sides of the plane could take photos. Of course my camera was in my backpack in the overhead compartment! I´m hoping that on the way back to BA they do the same thing.
Puerto Iguazu is in the jungle on the border of Paraguay, Brasil and Argentina. It is hot and humid at the moment. Reminds me a bit of Seychelles- the weather and the scenery.
I can´t check into my room until 2pm so i have to kill some time. The hostel is far from the town and buses run every 1/2hr. I have booked a Safari tour from 4pm-6pm today. Tomorrow i go for a full day tour of the falls on the Argentinian side. I had thought that i could do the Brazilian side as well but apparently i need a VISA. Funny that! So i am disappointed about that. I have to figure out what to do on Wednesday as my flight does not leave until 5pm!
I got my room at 2pm after spending half the day in the lobby! I could have used the pool but i was too tired.
I got a dorm and there are 2 other girls in there although i have not met them yet. I had a nap for half hour before getting organised for the Safari tour. I got dropped off at the entrance of the Iguazu national park by the transfer bus from my hostel. I was told the tour would pick me up there in 20 mins! It started to rain. I had no rain jacket so i waited under cover near the entrance. Waited for about half hour!! Anyway by the time i got picked up it was pouring with rain. The tour was in an open jeep! The guide gave me a poncho to use thank godness! We set off in the rain on this little track near the park. Because of the rain the track was mussy with lots of water in some areas. The tour was a bit of a waste of time as i could barely hear what the guide was saying. Also it was more about the vegetation. The was no chance of seeing any animals due to the rain. It was a bit of a joyride through the mud with the jeep slipping and sliding along the way. Was fun in some parts. Especially when we ended up sliding across the road!
When i got back to the hostel i met my room mates. Two girls from the US. I had a shower and chatted with them. They are going to the Asado/bbq dinner for NY´s eve. I decided to go with them.
We hanged out in the lobby for awhile, where there are computers, pool tables, sofas etc. Dinner was at 8pm. We got salads, bbq´s meats, fruits and 2 different cocktails which we could drink as much as we wanted.
During dinner they put on a show. First there was a tango show. Then some brazilian guy with his drum and a couple of dancers doing dances that they do at Carneval. was interesting until the dancers started doing lap dances for the guys. They didn´t strip but still. SOme of the girls were saying how it didn´t seem right and i agree!
I went back to my room at about 10.30pm and downloaded photos onto my laptop. Julie then came in and we chatted a bit. At 11.45pm we came back to the lobby and had a cup of tea and celebrated NY together, with a cup of tea! Some of the others set off fireworks. Was a good night.
