As my wonderful friend, Alexandra informed me the day before yesturday- it was day 100 out here in South America for us.( i would have actually written on day 100, but there were some technical difficulties with the blog page on this comp!). I cant believe it! It has gone so quickly and i have done so much in that time. It is also quite scary how quickly it is going to end too and now i just want to stay out here forever. If anyoen is coming out here in the next few years, i will be on a plane asap and be joining you!
Anyway, we are in Ecuador which is quite exciting. Yet,as they dont have their own currency and use dollars, it seems to make everything so much more expensive. Anyway, our first major stop here was in a lovely old colonial town called Cuenca. This was a bit of a misstake, as they had proper shops, as in not market stalls, not little shops with just a few random pieces of clothing. But big shops, with decent clothes in and compared to England it was so cheap! It was fantastic and so we splashed out a bit there!
There was also the nicest restaurant that we found- anyone headinfg to Ecuador and Cuenca, go to cfae eucalyptus. It had a fire and comy sofas next to it, along with the nicest food ever, ranging from french oinion soup to thai green curry to mddle eastern platter. The puddings were also fanbtastic, caramlised bananas with ice cream, apple and blackberry crumble and the nicest chocolate cake. As you can guess i like my food and it was so good to find somewhere different for a change.
After that rather expensive stop, we went onto Alausi where we went on the devil nose train ride. This was quite fun. But when we got there, we were told that we couldnt ride on top of the train, the thing that we had all be waiting for. However, one girl was given a look by the guards- dont speak about this now, later. And so later, with $1 bribe we could sit up top, going scarrily close to the edge and having had the excitement of the first 2 mins, with the train derailing! However, much to our disappointment, it was raining and all we did was go through the mountains. When we stopped and the guards pointed out the mountain which was called the devils nose, we just couldnt see it! It was good fun tho.
We then from there went to Banos, another lovely little town, which hads hot springs. We spent a good few hours there relaxing. then yesturday we had the best day ever. We went and did something called canyoning. This consisits of getting very cold, due to wading through rapids and rivers, jumping down mini waterfalls and then abseiling next to them and down them. So much fun, adn we did this all through an amazing jungle, forset type area, which was beautiful. Now we are all very tired and stomach muscles are telling us we shouidnt have done that yesturday!!!
Tomorrow we are going to be moving onto Tena, in the jungle to go whitewater rafting. I will let you know how that goes!
Speak soon and lots of love to everyone xxxxxxx
