I am back, i know this must be a shock, 2 blogs in 2 days. Well i figuered that in thenext 2 weeks or so i wont really be able to update my blog that much and also i really need to catch up as i am about to go to another country!
Anyway, Sucre, we went to a monastry on the top of the hill, on the side of the city, and the views were amazing! It also had some amazing things inside the monastry, from the jesuits that came over with the colonialists. Paintings, a tree that was 1500 years old and 8 people could stand around the turnk with their arms stretched out, an amazing chapel with fantstic wood carvings and it was also the place where one of tyhe old bolivian presedents was assassinated!
We then went onto Potosi the next day, (sunday) which used to be the richest town in the world, with a massive silver supply, until it was all mind out by the spanish. Today you can still go down the mines, but we took a miss on that one. Travellers that we metsaid that they wouldn´t do it again, the mention of arsnic killing off the minners, giving them dinamite as presents and the fatc that 8 million people have died down there, didnt really inspire anyone!
We then made our way to Uyuni to the salt lakes which were amazing. OUr guide told us that they were 9 m thick and they´re 12, 000 square km, which is huuuuge!!! They were the first day, and when i get a chance i will up load at least a photo as they were indiscribable. It was such an odd mixture, it looked like snow, but then where we stopped for lunch on an island, it had cacti on it- bizar.
The next 2 days we saw an active volcanoe, a red and green lake, flamingos, geysers at 6 in the morning and freezed our selves to death on one night due to very basic accommodation! All in all a very enjoyable experiance, a once in a life time and i will never forget it.
We are now in La paz, having had a very realxing 4 days for easter, having descovered a number of markets and finding a number of wonderful buys! On friday evening, we went to a fantastic art exhibition next to our hotel, that had some amazing bolivian artists and just sujms up bolivia completely. Yesturday, apart from finding the markets, there was also a massive power cut that affected here, the alto, which is the small subusb town on the top of la paz, and then 2 other towns 2- how crazy is that and the power was out from 11:45am to 4:30 pm, which made lunch very interesting, all done by candle light, and i have no idea how the restuarants managed to cook food. All i know, is that i had a fantastic raviloli dish and it was boiling hot, a rarity here in bolivia!
Today was lovely too, apart from the very rude awakening this mornign at 6, when brass bands and people processing, celebrating the rising of christ. Dont get me wrong, it is a very happy day and all, but at 6 am this morning was a little unecessary! However, mass and lunch where both fantastic, yet again having a massive portion of meat, i dont think i will be able to eat for at least another day!
Tomorrow we are moving off to Copacabana on Lake Titcaca, which is supposed to be lovely, and has inca ruins etc, so i am sure that will be good to. I will let you know how that goes.
LOts of love and i will write asap or when anything excting happens!
