Hello everyone. This is the first stop in my round the world trip. Dubai was really just a couple of weeks to relax and chill out after all the manic preparations before I left the UK. Dubai, however, is quite amazing. Apart from the fact the a lot of it is still a building site, over the next few years it will finish and be a truely amazing place. Afterall, how many places in the world can you go skiing when it is nearly 40 deg C? Ski Dubai is the largest indoor ski slope in the world (apparently) and is part of The Mall of the Emirates which in itself is massive.
I am staying in Bur Dubai which is the old part along with Diera on the opposite side of Dubai creek. Despite all the new buildings out towards Jumeirah, this part of Dubai is great, as it has a true arabic feel to it. Opposite my hotel is Dubai museum, grand mosque and souqs. It is well worth taking an abra ride (water taxi) across the creek to Diera and have look round the gold souqs (if you like that sort of thing...)
One of the best ways to take in Dubai is on the sight seeing bus tour on a open top double decker which you can hop on and off when you like and it also includes a trip on a dhow along the creek. A few days into my trip, I did a desert safari. This was fantastic. I was collected from the hotel in a 4x4 along with four other people. We then joined a group of cars and went out into the desert, which is like a strange roller coaster ride. At the end of run, we stopped at a bedouin camp and entertained by camel rides, belly dancing and loads of great food. Top stuff.
I'm leaving tomorrow for Mumbai and my Indian part of the tour. Bye.
