Friday, 23rd October
Our already long 18 hour bus journey turned into 24 hours when the bus broke down 1 1/2 hours outside Hanoi, then seemed to stop every half an hour until we eventually got to Hue. We had obviously missed the connecting bus but were pleased when the next one was a sleeper. We got into Hoi An at 6pm and went straight to the Hoa Binh hotel, quick shower and unpack then off to my birthday restaurant which was lovely, flood waters back up over the walk ways though, went to Tam Tams for lots of pool and cocktails, met a couple, Ben and Anya, who are travelling with their 4 year old daughter Layla around the world for a year.

Had a nice lie-in, I went for a swim, Tom's rented a bike so we went out to Cua Dai beach which was lovely, had our first swim in the sea since Palolem. The water was warm too, so nice to be back in the sea. Bumped into the Swedish couple from the bus who'd also got a bike. Found a gorgepus cafe on/over the river on the way back sp stopped for a refresher. Long ride out to Marble Mountains which are near Danang, it was an area of Danang that needed a lot more work the road was like a building site, having to dodge in and out of holes and piles of rubble, but the mountains were nice. Had a wonder along the waterfront to chhose somewhere for supper and stumbled across Cafe des Amis, a restaurant atributed to French singer Georges Brassens (don't know who he is but he must have been good). Mr Kim came bowling out showing us books of recommendeations from past guests so thought we'd give hime a go. This is no ordinary restaurant, you choose if you want meat, fish or vegetarian and Mr Kim surprises you with a 5 course meal for 120,000. He was pretty entertaining and kept loading up our spoons or cracker with what was on the plate, thought he was going to feed me at one point! Very nice grub though. Went for a few beers over the river which was so pretty with lanterns up on all the balconys, definate French feel here, such a chilled day and evening.

Relaxing day today, not that yesterday was stressful. Tom watched the racing Rossi's won the championship which was good to see. Rode back out to Cua Dai beach and Tom managed to find the bar we went to for my birthday which looks very different in day light, had a look around some shops and met up with Derek and Jillwho we'd met at Tam Tams. Very exciting phone call with Matt and Bec who are expecting baby number 2 on June 4th so we'll have 2 nieces/nephews by the time we get home. Tom beat the local twicw at pool (he would only play if there were bets involved) and got 100,000, very satisfying. Went out onto the island into Cam Nam village to King Kong bar until 2:30am playing pool.

Samuel It gets harder and harder every year to really impress that someone special in London for Valentines Day I need a list of great places that you can take that someone special that you may not yet have thought about, also tell me where to read the Cafe des Amis restaurant review.
