It was time to move on, we said goodbye about 8am and travelled by Tuck Tuck back to Kompong Thom to meet a bus to take us to Phomn Penh our ticket had the wrong date and time on it and we did not know much else but our trust in Alex came good! In fact our itinerary was not entirely accurate but we have learnt that there must be Asia time along with Asia road rulels! On that note Hayley has taken command of getting us across busy roads even if it means grabbing me by the wrist - you never try and beat a car but a tuck tuck and moto just go around you!
So we arrived at 9:00 but our bus was about 10:30 nope we have no idea either why we were early, the bus turned up at 10:50 and even though Alex had left us by this time we had the tuck tuck driver stay with us as we really did stick out a little! They did take us to a tree full of bats on the way and Hayley and I wondered around a local market however there was too much raw fish and chicken with flies on for either of us to stomach!
The private bus had come down from siem reap and there were two empty seats for us,
The funny thing was 10 mins later it stopped for a break and rightly so we wondered why this hadn't been our pick up? It took 3 hours to get to Phnom Penh and we had a man waiting with our names to take us to the hotel and this was yet another time when i thought thank you rickshaw - writing this I've just realised we haven't seen the rickshaw brand anywhere not even on documentation hmmmn
The plan b would have been 20 tuck tuck drivers all wanting to take us with no idea of how much we should pay!
We checked into the hotel and after the initial panic of no hot water we chilled out and caught up on WIFI. We then decided to go for a wander as we were only in Phnom Penh for 1 night. I forgot to mention when the driver dropped us off he asked what time we wanted to be picked up - today. I was bemused as thought he should tell us! I checked the speedboat time for the island asked how long it takes to the sea added on a bit and voila our pick up was 9am :)
Despite all the history of Phnom Penh we had already decided this was just a pit stop ready for going South.
It is fair to say neither Hayley or I would pass our orienteering brownie badge today as we went completely the wrong way but got some great exercise sweated alot and saw a different area of phnom penh.
It was then an early night and right now we are in the back of the car heading to our beach bungalow with no temples,
