Guatemala is beautiful. The scenery is all mountains, rivers and lakes. We spent our first night in Flores, a small town on an island in a lake. We then took a sunrise tour to Tikal, we had to get up at 3am to reach the top of the tallest temple by .30 for the sunrise. It was beautiful, the sun rose over the canopy and we could see the other temples protruding through the trees. It was misty and we could hear the howler monkeys and birds. Tikal itself was really impressive, the temples were huge and we were able to climb a few of them.
The next day we travelled to Semuc Champey. We stayed in the middle of the forest near the river so that we could walk down early in the morning. Semuc Champey is a limestone formation in the river that has created beautifully clear pools of water. We went swimming in the pools and climbed a up a steep hillside to see the pools from above. It was an amazing view.
