This is our first entry and I write this from Sami's laptop on the plane en route.
The goodbyes seemed unreal, like they didn't truly happen, or if they did it didn't really matter because I feel like I'll see everyone tomorrow. Even sitting on the flight, watching Sami watch How I Met Your Mother on my screen because her system is f***ed, it hasn't properly hit me that I won't be seeing anyone familiar for quite a while.
Leaving my comfort zone is something that I've been excited about for years. It's not even the fact that my family won't be able to look over me that made me so excited about this gap year trip. I'm finally seeing the world, finally leaving the security of Mosman and the emotionally drenching act of having to watch BMWs and Mercedes casually drive by. Though I've grown up, forgetting that the standard there is an extra one, it makes me nearly gag now.
Anyway, it's probably a bit more interesting to discuss the meals that we had on the plane. We have another 7 hours to go so we've already had lunch, snackies and will eventually get breakfast in about 4 hours. Lunch- Portugese Beef with rice and baked vegetables. Probably the best part of that meal was the rice which seems like an ingredient quite difficult to screw up. Don't get me wrong... the food was okay... but the rice was still the best. Snackies- Consisted of some very nice hot chocolate and a mysterious 'lucky dip' drawstring bag filled with a bottle of water, a muesli bar and some other chocolatey substance which I have not yet investigated. Breakfast- will either be some sort of scrambled egg and bacon- which I will stay very far away from, or cereal. They have now turned off all the lights on the plane, I'm guessing it's bed time, so I'll finish this entry and continue listening to Eminem as I try to get a few minutes of sleep. G'night. Xx Eva
