Hi All,
Well we are still in Lima and are feeling a lot better. There is not really a lot to tell but I am so bored writing a blog gives me something to do lol! Well after I last wrote we have pretty much spent a whole other week in the hotel. To save time I will just say what we did each day as it was the same most days - get up, watch ER then Ellen and then Friends, have a shower, go to the mall and eat something and buy some water then back to go on the internet which has been quite good as I usualy catch Kirsty after work for a wee chat and then watch films, read and go to sleep.
We only actually realised that it was Easter on Thursday when we went out and the streets were dead which you really notice as there are always loads of people and traffic and constant horns beeping. The whole place seemed t be back to normal by Monday though so maybe they get Thursday instead of Monday off.
By Sunday we were starting to feel quite a bit better and not really needing to run to the loo quite so often so we had a couple of drinks to break up he boring routine, I had one glass of wine and left rotten though so gave up on that one.
On Monday we decided to go to Larcomar and treat ourselves to the nice meal we had been planning before we were ill. We were just so bored of sitting in and needed some proper food too. When we got out the cab there was a huge crowd outside the Marriott and I realised I had seen on the news that the rock band Kiss were performing in Lima this week. We stood for a wee while and then some PR guy came out and said he was asleep upstairs so we just left. A couple of minutes later we heard a whole lot of commotion and Cra9g just bolted over the road and I was trying to cross behind him but the police kept saying something to me but I go there in time to just see him disappear into the car we don’t have a photo though as Craig was looking at someone else lol!! We didn’t really wanna mess about with the police as they all had riot equipment with shields etc! We had a walk through the mall and looked for restaurant we found one just off the seafront but had to eat inside anyway as it was too hot. It was a lovely posh menu even in English!! Craig had a seafood platter then seafood risotto and had Caprese then beef in wine and mushroom sauce with mashed potatoes, it was amazing!! Craig couldn’t eat his lobster as he could see its face and felt bad lol! We eve had tea and coffee, my first cup of tea in 3 weeks lol!! All for about £40, not bad for a really posh meal including tip! After we had a walk around the mall and played Mariocart in the arcades then got a taxi back to the hotel.
The next day we just had a walk around San Isidro but it is mainly just the equivalent to walking round like Gyle Industrial Estate lol! We had some lunch and watched Chelsea V Liverpool. After we had a look in Ripley for some Havaiana flip flops to see how dear they were, they were about £3 so we got a pair each and they are as comfy as everyone says lol, well especially for me as I have been waling about in a pair that cost me 90p in Kenya lol! After we ought some phone cards so crag can phone the bank for the latest bank fiasco of the bank not paying his direct debits, quite annoying as we cant afford to even call our families but we have to spend time calling the bank yet again!! At night I got to see Houston Rescue on Animal Planet, my favourite show! Its actually quite sad how we have gotten a we routine with what shows we watch and how we know all about them all, even the Spanish adverts lol!! Its also amazing how watching shows with subtitles can teach you a foreign language we are getting pretty good lol!
Yesterday we were going to go into Lima but when I went online to get our bus tickets there were none for the next day so we had an extra day so we just did some errands, we booked our bus for tomorrow to Cuzco and our train tickets for machu pichu which were $200!! We are a bit worried that the buses are going to be really expensive as in the guidebook it says $17-47 from Lima to Cuzco and ours were $45 and more used routes ie. BA - Rio are even dearer so we hope they are not all at the top end! Then we went and got me a new travel pillow as I had to leave my trusty pink pillow in Kenya as it was so manky it could practically walk on its own but now I am so used to it I find it hard to sleep if I don’t have something to hold and I need it for the long buses, tomorrow is 21 hours!! We had dinner and then headed back to the hotel. We are getting a bit hacked off with the staff as we have been booking each night online as its $6 cheaper but they made me email them all the reservations God knows how they don’t have them as if I was coming from home surely they would need to get it somehow to know you were coming so I was not happy at being ordered to do something. We also only realised a few days ago that breakfast was included in our room so we had eggs and ham this morning which was good. Oh also today was a great day as Craig had previously emailed his old boss who has moved departments to Nationwide to get the new boss’ email address to email him about getting his old job back but she offered him a job with her that she says she should be able to keep till we get back and its more money, we are so cheesin’ - it takes the worrying about getting a job and saving away a bit so we can enjoy the last few weeks all the more!
Today we got up and had breakfast and watched TV then I checked my emails and had an email from my Aunty Alison saying my Grandad was in hospital as he has had trouble with hiss legs so I called the BGH and the nurse was SO RUDE so I called my Dad too!!! It turns out from what I gathered that he is ok though and I can call tomorrow to talk to him, it gave us a bit of a fright though, its not nice being away from home and feeling like there is nothing you can do. After we got a taxi into Lima, 3 weeks in a city and not even seen it yet1! We went to Plaza de Armas which was lovely it is flanked by lovely old buildings, two of which are the cathedral and the president’s palace and has a lovely fountain in the middle. We walked down a lovely street, a bit like Rose Street actually and had dinner in a meat type place which was ok, my steak came on the grill so I could leave it on it till it was as done as I wanted. At the end of the street we arrived at Plaza San Martin which was lovely with a statue of the General Jose de San Martin in the middle. We then got a taxi to Parque de la Reserva which is a new park with a big fountain show in it, it was amazing and less than a quid to get in! There were about 20 big fountains and they all had music playing by each of them in time to the water, a bit like the Bellagio although I still love it best. They all had loads of different shapes and colours, it was really cool. There was one that formed a kind of arch that you could walk under and one that started and stopped and all the kids were running about in it. Then Craig went in and as he was going in the water started and sprayed right up his front lol!! Then I decided I should go in too and when I was trying to get back out I put my leg over and the jet started and sprayed right up between my legs soaking all my front and back and everyone laughed and to make it even worse Craig has it on video lol!! It was a really lovely park though, there are so many photos you will probably be bored but they are only half of what I actually took! We are now back at the hotel and the electric is out so no TV and cant charge anything on our last night, not impressed, especially as the staff are so useless and seem to think it is funny!
So tomorrow we are off to Cuzco and so glad to be on the move again it has driven us mad being cooped up in here, there is only so much cards you can play, TV you can watch and books you can read!
Hope everyone is well at home.
Lots of Love
Eva and Craig xxx
